Anyone with 3.0 wifi issues try 3.1 with success yet?

I was one of the many iPod touch 2G users (based on posts to this forum) who had problems with wifi after upgrading from 2.2.1 to 3.0 a couple of months back. After trying almost every suggested solution posted on this forum (The only suggestion I didn't try was to go out and buy a brand new Apple wireless router), talking to Apple phone support, and a trip to the Genius bar, all without success, I ended up downgrading back to 2.2.1 and my wifi problems immediately went away.

Anyway, I was wondering if there's anyone who had wifi issues with 3.0, and has since taken the plunge to 3.1 and seen the problems go away, or at least seen significant improvement. I'm hesitant to once again upgrade, only to have my wifi broken again.

I have an ipod touch 2nd gen and updated to 3.1 as well as updated to itunes 9. After the update I am having all kinds of problems with my touch. I have had the touch for 7 months now and never had any problems till I updated today. The biggest problem is that the touch now gets low or no wifi signal in my house or out. I even put it next to my wireless router to see if the signal would get better and no luck! I payed $5 bucks to lose wifi! Apple please fix this. I didn't update to 3.0 because I heard alot of touch users had the same problem. I am going to tell everyone I know not to update till this BIG problem is fixed.

Hi,

I upgraded to 3.0 and although the wiFi indicator fluctuates from nearly nothing to full I have noticed an INCREASE in speed of browsing and download. The wifi indicator level has no effect on speed of browsing, dowloading, checking email etc. Even when at its lowest level you wouldn't know if browsing only by looking at the indicator.
It also connects to my home network without any problems. (AEBS).
I would suggest anyone experiencing low wifi level should just double check by using their apps rather than assume there is problem based solely on the indicator level.

I wouldn't assume that 3.1 will fix any WiFi problems that you saw with 3.0. After a couple of months with 3.0 we have a pretty good handle on where the problems originated and what steps are needed to get WiFi working well:

1. If you have an older router (>3 years old) update your firmware immediately. If that doesn't start to fix things, buy a new one (any brand name will do).
2. Update your encryption to WPA or WPA2. WEP is not secure and rather inconvenient to setup properly for the touch.
3. Keep your network setup simple - turn DHCP on, SSID on, and MAC address filtering off.

After upgrading I pod touch's OS to 3.1.1, I've been experiencing its wi-fi's fluctuation now.

Everything looks good except this problem.
I paid 5 bucks to upgrade its operating system yesterday.

I'd never watched my Touch's that much unstable connecting condition.
Usually, it was always full when I used AP at my school.

Like apple said, I can detect my Touch 2nd generation's faster performances and responsibility after upgrading its OS.

Sometimes this unstable condition drives me think roll back its OS to old one.

I just upgraded to 3.1 and am having the same problem I had when I upgraded to 3.0 Reverting to 2.2.1 resolves the problem, but I'm increasingly finding apps I can't use. Taking LuvLabs advice I looked into upgrading my router firmware. My router is a WCG200-CC (a Linksys rented from Comcast) so I called Comcast and although they denied that the problem was with their router, they informed me that my "equipment" is no longer supported in my area so they are sending a guy to replace my router and cable modem with a newer Netgear system. I think that was their way of fixing the problem without admitting the problem was with them.

I'm almost afraid to answer for fear of jinxing myself....but, after going from 2.2.1 (excellent connection throughout entire house) to 3.0, I could hardly connect or hold a connection unless I was right next to the router. Tried all the fixes, with negative results.

The 3.1 upgrade has resulted in excellent connections (again) throughout my house and even to some areas outside. I almost think the speed is somewhat increased, but that may be the result of the poor performance under 3.0

You aren't an Apple employee trying to con us are you?? 🙂 Just kidding.

I hope what you say is true, because SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE is going to throw caution to the wind on the strength of your comments, and spring for 3.1.1. Let's hope that 3.1.1 has wifi connectivity for others, as good as you are experiencing.

Me: standing by, awaiting further reports of good/bad results with 3.1.1

If they do and have issues, I would hope that they do not blame those who post about positive results. myself, I downgraded from 3.0 to 2.2.1 but decided to give 3.1.1 a try knowing I could always go back. So far (knock on wood) it's been an improvement as far as wi-fi and the only issue I've hit is when scrolling podcasts. Hehe...not an apple employee,..actually just got my first Mac and
took advantage of the free Touch offer. I got the 2G in August and
wifi was great throughout the entire house with 2.2.1. I also use a
Linksys WRT54G with up to date firmware. After I purchased the
3.0, connectivity went very bad.
Now, after the 3.1 upgrade, and using the same hardware, I get a
steady and strong connection...

Anyone with 3.0 wifi issues try 3.1 with success yet?
