After iTunes 9 upgrade iPod Classic is corrupt without ability to restore

I am upset right now, so this will seem a bit harsh. I do not really care if this has been posted, it needs to be said again.

I upgraded my Windows Vista x64 PC to iTunes 9 today and attempted to sync my iPod Classic 80GB to iTunes. It failed and it became apparent after doing some searching online that the hard drive was corrupt. After connecting my iPod to the PC again, iTunes told me that the iPod was corrupted need to be restored. After downloading the update and extracting it, the iPod restore process begins and then fails.

I've tried to restore my iPod on Mac and Windows, and I've tried all the recommendations from Apple regarding the error that I get, something about the restore failed due to an unknown error 1439. Thanks Apple for unknown errors.

This is a relatively good condition iPod that is slightly out of warranty and I need to know what I can do to get it repaired. It worked just fine this afternoon and I've never had a problem with it, ever. I know it's a functional iPod I just need a restore but it won't work for me.

Will the Apple Store nearest me help me with this, or will they tell me to take off b/c it's out of warranty????

Questions needing answers.

Thanks for any and all help.

In the UK there is a sales agreement law that states that something should have a reasonable length of time of use. For example the courts would rule that a TV should in theory last around 5years. So an Ipod just out of date of it warrenty will be rules easily in a trade court of law unworthy and a free replacement ordered to be supplied at no extra cost to the consumer. THESE ARE YOUR RIGHTS, Explain this to APPLE.... It is unfair. They would not want this taken to court and risk it being logged and lost. It is obvious that something APPLE have done is causing problems. Too many people posting here especially if you think that this is only a small proportion of people who actually can be bothered to complain.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH Mumbojumbo1234!
I for one are very annoyed by Apple's ignorance of this problem. However, several emails to Apple have proved that they just don't seem to care. Unless you speak in the language from the country Luxembourg there is nothing it seems, that can be done. My Ipod is still corrupt and refuses to shuffle songs, as well as refusing to play certain ones! I totally sympathise with you. Several of my posts have been removed promoting a page of FB (facebook) because they are considered slanderous. If Apple actually did something about it, we would all be a lot happier. Just search 'Ipod' btw.
Also, the new software doesn't seem to work either. Is this a set up to make people fork out vast amounts of money for replacements? Btw this post will probably be removed, so catch it quickly.

This is my advice:
Don't plug your Ipod into the computer. It will only cause more damage
Secondly
Don't try to make it run too quickly. Usually after four minutes of refusing to play a song you may get a response.

Good luck!

Okay, yesterday I got a call from ***, a support rep from Apple. He said they have been reading the boards and they know about the problems ipod classic owners are having. So they know they have a lot of people angry with them. Apparently they are trying to call the ones who post on the board. I told him exactly what my ipod was doing. How it basically fried after downloading their upgrade. I did not tell him that I had already remedied it by uninstalling itunes and all of its apps and having to reformat the harddrive in my ipod. It works great now but I had to reinstall itunes 8.0 and it won't let me rent movies without upgrading again. Anyway, his solution was this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925?viewlocale=en_US. (I hope I did that right). Well, I followed the steps and reinstalled itunes 9 again. Plugged in my ipod and now it works fine with the upgrade. For now anyway.

I have my sync settings to automatically sync when i plug in my classic. This works fine 100% of the time, but if i leave it plugged in and then try to sync by pressing the sync button in the lower right corner, it fails and tells me to disconnect then reconnect. That works, but is a major pain. It has never done this in previous iTunes versions. This is only one of several issues since iTunes 9 update.

Hey RoABoat, yes I did follow the link he gave me and then followed all the instructions exactly. Remember to uninstall anything pertaining to Apple and itunes including Bonjour. The instructions will already tell you that. Do not have your ipod plugged in to your computer while doing this. After you reinstall itunes 9.0 then restart your computer and then go to itunes and plug your ipod. Keep your fingers crossed. Mine is working fine now.

Hi
just yesterday i've uninstalled all the Apple software from my pc, following the apple guide step by step, then i've formatted my ipod and then i've reinstalled everything ( itunes 9 ).
First i've tried to syncronize just a few songs and everything went fine, in a second time i've syncronized all my music library and everything went fine again.
When i've added a few more song and tried to re-syncronize my ipod classic 80gb itunes gave to me the error message "itunes stopped working" then crashed. When i've opened itunes again, the ipod has made a strange noise like hard disk ticking and the restore screenshot has appeared on the ipod display.

So there's no solution to this problem. My warranty is still valid, what do you think i should do?

Ok poeple this is what I did to get my IPod Classic 120 "ok job but not fixed" So.
First thing is uninstall ITunes from my pc " I have windows 7" so its gone every single folder that means my music folder that iTunes makes its own directory. Make sure to delete that folder in your music directory go to folder and options and click show hidden folders and delete everything that ITunes makes. I reverted Back ITunes 8.2 . So now when I install itunes 8.2 dont update or do something ridiculous and go back to 9.XX w/e. Now back on 8.2 restore ur Ipod and then load up all you songs back into itunes key word dont sync ipod do it manualy when moving songs to your ipod if you sync your songs into you ipod it will freeze. What I did is Each "Album I moved my self by selecting the whole album and manualy move it to my ipod. Repead this step for every Album or every 25 songs to your ipod. Just dont sync your ipod and manualy move everysingle song to you ipod.

This may not be the solution for everyone but its only for those that have similar problems so please don't hate on me.!

I also notice something on 8.2 is that whenever I convert my music to AAC it stays in order so what I mean is that on 9.XX the music is scramble and that it makes random alphabetical letter for each file of music.
