Q: After iTunes 9 upgrade iPod Classic is corrupt without ability to restore

I am upset right now, so this will seem a bit harsh. I do not really care if this has been posted, it needs to be said again.

I upgraded my Windows Vista x64 PC to iTunes 9 today and attempted to sync my iPod Classic 80GB to iTunes. It failed and it became apparent after doing some searching online that the hard drive was corrupt. After connecting my iPod to the PC again, iTunes told me that the iPod was corrupted need to be restored. After downloading the update and extracting it, the iPod restore process begins and then fails.

I've tried to restore my iPod on Mac and Windows, and I've tried all the recommendations from Apple regarding the error that I get, something about the restore failed due to an unknown error 1439. Thanks Apple for unknown errors.

This is a relatively good condition iPod that is slightly out of warranty and I need to know what I can do to get it repaired. It worked just fine this afternoon and I've never had a problem with it, ever. I know it's a functional iPod I just need a restore but it won't work for me.

Will the Apple Store nearest me help me with this, or will they tell me to take off b/c it's out of warranty????

Questions needing answers.

Thanks for any and all help.

OK - sorry took me a while to update fact that i fixed mine
I want everyone to know another Solution.. and I saw Cee has already sort of said it..
    now wat i did...

    Add/remove - removed Itunes 9.0.2.25

    checked no ipod one..
    removed some Apple ones

Search: Itunes.. deleted ALL under this

search: Ipod.. deleted All under this.. well OK not all.. but anything which actually was part of it..

installed an oooooold cd i have of one of first itunes.. (came with my ipod nano 1G) it was corrupt tho.. so i obviously deleted sumfin i should not have.. then i burned all my music so i didnt lose it, just in case..
then deleted itunes libraries.. and all that stuff..
then i updated to itunes 9.0.2.25 again.. and i connected my ipod and didnt connect

plugged in my 1GB nano.. (cos then devices shows up) and in separate port, plugged in ipod classic 80GB.. and THER IT WAS.. put music on.. and yay!

but took fiddling.. and still does.. as 80GB classic does not always read thru itunes. so have to retry a few times..
and so far won't work without having my ipod nano 1GB plugged in..
not to mention my ipod 80GB classic, is now screwed.. as in.. it wont always play , and its slow to process sometimes.. like if i say next song.. it might take more than a few seconds to change.. and sometimes skips songs..
but at least i have it working somewhat again

hopefully others have it work.. even better than mine

SOLUTION: i think the solution is to delete ur itunes library.. (make sure u burn music.. or transfer to different folder so plays in Windows Media Player and is not related to itunes in any way).. then uninstall itunes and ipod stuff.. then reinstall

    summary:

    - uninstall itunes/ipod
    - delete the itunes library
    - reinstall itunes/ipod

note i used a bridge to get my 80GB classic to be recognised on itunes.. (my bridge is my 1GB nano, i have to have both in at once) BTW 1gb nano worked, not classic.. initially b4 finding solution.

have you tried deleting Itunes Library files/folders?? You can have burn the music or alternativeley remove it to a different folder.
You may know.. or may have in a different location,
but normally you will find the itunes library under My Documents -> My Music ->Itunes (delete all under here which say Itunes) but if u go into a folder and thats where music is.. move it to Just be under My Documents -> My Music.

also uninstall Itunes.. restart computer. and reinstall..

on pg 13 of this forum i have my solution what worked for my laptop/ipod.. its more in depth.. but probably a more individual solution/method... as I think the problem is slightly different for every user.

    hope that helps

hopefully you dont need to use an older one at all.. try just moving ur music out of itunes library and then delete all the itunes library folders.. this does mean you will lose playlists etc but hope it works!

i went through a lot of steps.. but i think all it needs is for music library to be deleted, please tell me if this works solely. without any other steps so i can tell others. thanks and GOOD LUCK!! its been a big strain on sooo many people.

Hi I am in the Uk, I currently have an 80g Classic, recently it has caused major problems. When i have tried to Sync it causes my Windows XP to crash and go to a blue screen to protect data. I have taken my Dell laptop to a repair shop and have had a corupted hard drive replaced. I still have the same problem! I have reset my pod but to no avail, has anyone had any similar experiences? I am still running i Tunes 8.

    Thanks

After doing the reformat through Windows trick (click My Computer, then the device, then Format) I've been able to get some music on my iPod but it's still absolutely maddening. It still doesn't recognize my iPod half the time, and then, after multiple frustrating sessions where it sometimes fills fine and sometimes give me error messages, I get all 80 gb filled only to have it wipe it clean next time I plug it in. This has happened twice and I don't know whether to laugh or cry. This stuff never happened before iTunes 9 and why has Apple not responded to this issue yet? I've sent them a message concerning the issue like most of you probably have.

Okay, I did what was instructed by Cee in this thread; I deleted my library and all things iTunes, and reinstalled iTunes 7.

This seemed to work, and I could synch all songs save for the ones that freezed and gave me an error when in iTunes 9. I just unchecked those so it would skip over them, and got all my songs on my iPod save for the few unchecked problem songs.

I noticed yesterday that 2 new songs I had put in would not play on my iPod.
I hooked it up today and I haven't hooked it up since I put those 2 new songs on it; and now it freezes my iTunes, it is forever "synchronizing" but it doesn't do anything, and it won't show up in iTunes, if it gets that far it is frozen by then.

What is going on NOW!? :/ Sheesh.

I REFUSE to accept that I have to delete my entire library to get this crap to work.

I just bought yet ANOTHER apple product in the iPhone and had to upgrade to iTunes 9.0.2 and now I can't get iTunes to recognize my less than 2 years old 5th gen iPod classic.

I called Apple and have exhausted all attempts to get this to work. I will not empty my iPod because there is no guarantee I'll ever be able to get music back on it.

    This crap is UNACCEPTABLE.

I am livid at this company. I'd ask for help but they have my money now and I don't expect anything.

    FU Apple.

Hi, I might sound foolish but is the media those deal with gadget reviews, aware of the mess Apple has made ? I didn't find much about this problem being discussed out of this forum. Couldn't some sort of criticism form the media over the issue stir Apple a bit while this internal forum is seemingly not being heeded at all.

*I MAY HAVE SOLVED PART OF THE PROBLEM!!!*

Hooked up my 120g Classic today and synced it. Took it to work. Got a little angry because it was full of 10gigs of NOTHING.

Came back home. Hooked it up. Experienced the same problem everyone else is having.

So I left it hooked up and frozen on Itunes while I searched through this thread. Then suddenly the freakin thing decided to reset itself (left it hooked in for around 10 minutes doing nothing).
    Restored it. Synced it.
    Works fine.
As I speak now, it's syncing up.
That's just a PART of the problem.
Unfortunately it's not done syncing so I may run into problems, so I'll keep you all updated.

About... 20% into the syncing process right now.

    Yeah. Works fine.

Just hook it in, let it freeze Itunes, and just leave it alone for around 10 minutes, then it'll randomly decide to give you back access to Itunes, and gives you the error that it can't read the Ipod, so then just restore it and it'll restore and sync fine.

At least it did for mine.

I can't believe that Apple would do anything like this. I mean the same problem "Error 1239" keeps popping up for plenty of people everyone of them having an iPod Classic and not one of them respond to the errors. So what, are the iPod Classics outdated now? Why not tell anyone before this happened?

So my issue was resolved with a hotfix from Microsoft. I am running Windows 7 and my pc has the nvidia chipset, which seems to be the culprit in the iTuens/Win7 problem. For those of you that are running Win7, this could explain the freezing mid-sync. For everyone else- I don't know...but I do feel your frustration. It really *****.

Hi, Im realy confused from this Itunes. Im not sure did the itunes cause the problem or ipod was already with this problem. Basicly i buy ipod classic 80gb from ebay before few days (used) and i cant sync all of my music with itunes, i just try every thing - restart, restore, formating re-installing itunes and what ever. I just cant sync more than 2.35gbs of music at my ipod classic. Im a bit dissapointed from Apple ... i will be happy if someone just help me and give me some ideas what to do (every idea is wellcome) or i will have to write at the seller i will have to return it Im sorry because i didnt post a new thread but i can't find the botton for a new one ... Btw sorry for my bad English, i hope you guys will understand what i mean.

Btw you can see my PC configuration under it ... is that possible to be caused because im using a windows 7 and nvidia video card ?
