Q: After iTunes 9 upgrade iPod Classic is corrupt without ability to restore

I am upset right now, so this will seem a bit harsh. I do not really care if this has been posted, it needs to be said again.

I upgraded my Windows Vista x64 PC to iTunes 9 today and attempted to sync my iPod Classic 80GB to iTunes. It failed and it became apparent after doing some searching online that the hard drive was corrupt. After connecting my iPod to the PC again, iTunes told me that the iPod was corrupted need to be restored. After downloading the update and extracting it, the iPod restore process begins and then fails.

I've tried to restore my iPod on Mac and Windows, and I've tried all the recommendations from Apple regarding the error that I get, something about the restore failed due to an unknown error 1439. Thanks Apple for unknown errors.

This is a relatively good condition iPod that is slightly out of warranty and I need to know what I can do to get it repaired. It worked just fine this afternoon and I've never had a problem with it, ever. I know it's a functional iPod I just need a restore but it won't work for me.

Will the Apple Store nearest me help me with this, or will they tell me to take off b/c it's out of warranty????

Questions needing answers.

Thanks for any and all help.

-Matt

What good is a patch or software if the iPod won't respond or be recognized?

The iPod is being recognised by the PC (look in "my computer" - I bet it's there) - iTunes is also seeing it briefly - it's simply deciding to ignore it for some reason???

I, like soooo many others, regret installing and updating to iTunes 9. After going through an initial virus scan when plugged in, iTunes (9 or 8) will freeze. My Computer sees it (removable disk) but when I try to click on it (or right click)its starts to hang, only to stop when I unplug the ipod.

I manually sync my ipod so I still have all my music but this is a disaster for a lot of people who do it automatically.

I don't see how there could be a fix if windows explorer or even itunes 8 hangs when the ipod is connected

How convenient for Apple then that everyone must buy new iPods because of something that they did.

After your iPod stopped syncing, froze or whatnot, is all the free memory filled up by "other" now? I could of sworn I had more than 27 mb left of memory on my pod. Only got 9000 songs and some videos.

Definitely the last iPod I buy. Those Zune HDs look mighty nice right about now.

Likewise - Since iTunes 9 was installed, the software keeps telling me my 120GB 5th gen iPod is corrupt, and whenever I try to restore, it again tells me it is corrupt.

I've tried the 5 Rs, plus reformatted it in Windows, but still tells me its corrupt.

Result: for a month, my iPod has been sitting empty and useless waiting on Apple to come up with a fix for iTunes 9.

Lets go, Apple! I toted an iPod around for years telling people how it's second to none. And now I sit here iPod-less because of your frickin software. Get it together and fix this **** already! It's been over 4 months. What kinda customer service and product reliabity is this and what's the hold up? Telling people to go out and buy a new iPod is ridiculous and it's bad business practice. FIX IT!

    Hi MarcusJWilson,
I suggest you contact (read these hints carefully) something that you wear on your wrist and a type of animal that barks. Post it on the aforementioned website and you may be asked to give a full account to them.

It is rather strange that your 80 GB Clasic iPod had problem with iTunes 9.0. My experience with this and with same Operating System as yours is just the opposite!

I just wanted everyyone to know that I have been upgrading iTune software automatically as soon as they become available, and right now it is Ver. 9.0.2.25. My operating system is Windows Vista Home Premium - 64 bit. Everything is running just fine.

So, there MUST be some other factor(s) that caused the problem - may be some other unusual application is interfearing in your case. May be we can chat and try to isolate our two operating environment to see if we can isolate the cause.

    Good luck to you.

I'm in the same boat as everyone else here. My 80gb iPod Classic had been working completely fine until a few months ago (after iTunes 9, I'm assuming?), when I got a message saying it was corrupted. Restoring always worked, but the iPod would always inevitably crap out at some point (excessive freezing, device would randomly get wiped clean, etc.), causing me to have to restore it again.

Now, my iPod seems to be working fine, until I plug it into my computer. The computer doesn't detect the iPod, and in the one time it did, it said it was corrupt. I can't get it to recognize it again.

I just tried using DiskUtility to fix my iPod (which means the computer sees it, just not iTunes), but it says that it cannot be repaired. I'm really fed up at this point.

I have the ipod classic at first i wasn't giving me problems. However I gave me problems where i would restore it and re-synchronize it and all the files didn't appear or play but they were taking up space in the HDD. I went to the apple store and scheduled to see if the problem could be solved. Somehow I was able to restore it when I got home. I has been working perfectly for a month or two by now but just two or three days ago I tried to synchronize it but some how after it finnish everything when ballistic and songs got currupted and all the album art was screwed up. Now whenever I connect it itunes gets frozen media monkey doesn't detect it and my windows explorer tries to load it but it never does. I'm posting this to urge apple to fix their faulty software program so I can use the product I bought from them.
