Q: After iTunes 9 upgrade iPod Classic is corrupt without ability to restore

I am upset right now, so this will seem a bit harsh. I do not really care if this has been posted, it needs to be said again.

I upgraded my Windows Vista x64 PC to iTunes 9 today and attempted to sync my iPod Classic 80GB to iTunes. It failed and it became apparent after doing some searching online that the hard drive was corrupt. After connecting my iPod to the PC again, iTunes told me that the iPod was corrupted need to be restored. After downloading the update and extracting it, the iPod restore process begins and then fails.

I've tried to restore my iPod on Mac and Windows, and I've tried all the recommendations from Apple regarding the error that I get, something about the restore failed due to an unknown error 1439. Thanks Apple for unknown errors.

This is a relatively good condition iPod that is slightly out of warranty and I need to know what I can do to get it repaired. It worked just fine this afternoon and I've never had a problem with it, ever. I know it's a functional iPod I just need a restore but it won't work for me.

Will the Apple Store nearest me help me with this, or will they tell me to take off b/c it's out of warranty????

Questions needing answers.

Thanks for any and all help.

-Matt

Itunes 8 has to be downloaded from some other site. Download.com carries a version, as do other sites, but you'll have to search for it.

So this topic is said to be "resolved." I've gone through many responses, but none seem to have an answer. I am having the same problems, My Mac does nothing when the iPod is plugged in and Windows reports that the "USB device cannot be recognized."

I just wanted to add to the reports. If this really is resolved, can someone point out the post that apparently "resolves" this issue?

BTW I have an iPod 5th gen.

    I own Ipods in (older) B/W 20G, and a new touchscreen-video-included one.
Do I have to keep them with the previously installed music on them? Without ever trying to use them again loading new music/video through iTunes 9? Backing up files on the HD's? Would it realy harm the devices?
THIS IS NOT WHY I BOUGHT THEM!!
A seven (7) months old forumitem, still unsolved don't help much.
Could you let me know if (and when) the solution is available please?
Waiting for that, before bying iPhone and laptop too.
    Much appreciated. Thanks.
    Yours

I think this is the problem w/my classic 20 gig ipod. Luckily, it works perfectly fine, but won't sync anymore songs from ITUNES. Have the reps said anything about a new update that will work with the older models?

I haven't checked this thread in a while. Has anyone found any kind of solution? And if I can't fix my iPod should I really risk buying a new one?

I went into my local Apple store in Newcastle upon Tyne...its new...and asked about the apparent problem...The Appleman said he was unaware of any problems and his own classic ipod synced with I tunes 9.......Do Apple admins monitor these posts? Is there any way to contact them at a high level i.e. Steve Jobs to try and obtain some answers. I suspect because ithe thread is 'answered' it is being ignored overlooked..

I cannot fathom why anyone would even consider buying another Ipod device unless and until this problem has been resolved. As a result of reading the forums it appears that the problem rests with the Itunes program, not with the devices themselves. So, I would have a huge concern about buying a new unit, syncing it, and having it corrupted by Itunes again.

My iPod is not working anymore. It stopped working after I synced with my library since I had added more music to it.

    The sync worked.

But then, no matter what I selected, music, artist, playlist, composer, etc, the iPod would seem to work, then hang at the Apple logo.

I tried the extras, games, chose Klondike, and it hanged in loading. Same with iQuiz.

I reset it several times (in between trying all variations) which just resulted in seeing the Apple logo again. I restored it several times. Same behavior.

I took it to the Apple store. They replaced it with a brand new one.

I synced the new iPod with my library. And the same thing has happened again.

    iPod Classic 160 GB
    iTunes 9.1.1 (12)
    OS X 10.6.3 Build 10D573

I'm at my wits end here i've tried everything to get my ipod to work and the best i can get is to use the first 10gb of my 80gb ipod and sick of apple's silence on the subject i won't be buying another apple product ever again and will advise family and friends to avoid apple products like the plague.

Now if you will excuse be i'm off to compare ms zune prices

Just wondering if anyone else was managing the ipod disk manually i.e. having to drag songs onto the ipod itself.

Hey guys, I see that i'm not the only one having problems with Apple's iPod.
I had mine for about 2 years now, changed it once for a HD issue.
The new one now can't sync at all with iTunes. Well iTunes finds it, but it says it's corrupted.
I restore the iPod, but it is still marked as corrupted. That occurred on my PC.
On my mac it's slightly different, can't restore, 1415 error. I looked on Apple's assistance site, did what they said, but still won't restore.
The iPod works normally, i can listen to my music without any problem at all.
    It just won't sync.
I've noticed that when i disconnect it from the computer, it restarts automatically by it's own.
I've tried to format the hard drive, but it just won't work.
I'm beginning to think that iPod are programmed to break at established moment, it's my third iPod classic now (had another one just like this one and an old U2 20go).

Also it is filled with over 90go of "others" (saw it in the information page), and i don't use it a basic hard drive to transport data.

Does anyone know how to fix it ? Any help would be nice
    Thanks
