After iTunes 9 upgrade iPod Classic is corrupt without ability to restore

I am upset right now, so this will seem a bit harsh. I do not really care if this has been posted, it needs to be said again.

I upgraded my Windows Vista x64 PC to iTunes 9 today and attempted to sync my iPod Classic 80GB to iTunes. It failed and it became apparent after doing some searching online that the hard drive was corrupt. After connecting my iPod to the PC again, iTunes told me that the iPod was corrupted need to be restored. After downloading the update and extracting it, the iPod restore process begins and then fails.

I've tried to restore my iPod on Mac and Windows, and I've tried all the recommendations from Apple regarding the error that I get, something about the restore failed due to an unknown error 1439. Thanks Apple for unknown errors.

This is a relatively good condition iPod that is slightly out of warranty and I need to know what I can do to get it repaired. It worked just fine this afternoon and I've never had a problem with it, ever. I know it's a functional iPod I just need a restore but it won't work for me.

Will the Apple Store nearest me help me with this, or will they tell me to take off b/c it's out of warranty????

Questions needing answers.

Thanks for any and all help.

Quick update:

I called the Apple Tech Support line and they looked at the apple support documents regarding how to exhaust all options, e.g. (use different USB port, restart computer, use different computer, try try try again).

Nothing worked for me and they told me since my iPod was out of warranty to just buy a new one since a repair job would cost about the same if not more for something similar.

So I bit the bullet and bought a new iPod Nano 16GB.

Nothing you can do I guess.

If the unit is in need of repair, you can send it to Apple, or some other source for repair. If you are handy with this sort of thing, you even might be able to fix it yourself. Google is your friend.

It seems that there could be issues with this version of iTunes, as others seem to have the same sort of problem, so you might just have to sit tight and see if Apple comes up with an update to iTunes, or just cuts the cord on older iPods.

Not sure what the Apple Store can do for you, as I personally void all warranties just by owning things!

Sorry, but that's not a resolution to me.

The exact same thing happened to me that happened to you, Matt. I'm two months out of the the year-long warranty and there's NO WAY IN **** that someone's going to tell me to buy a new one because it's two months past. Especially because it was WORKING FINE before I tried this POS iTunes update.

How are the forums here? Are there people that actually check these problems?

I stumbled onto this thread after I hooked up my iPod video to try and synch it. I too got the "Corrupted iPod" message. I usually don't eject my iPod, as it doesn't disconnect from Windows cleanly. After going through a few steps, I have my iPodsynched & ready to go. (Perhaps it's just a bug in the new version of iTunes, which I have to admit is more aesthetically pleasing).

I clicked the "Eject iPod" button in iTunes.
I selected "USB Mass Storage Device" from the safely remove hardware wizard
I reset the iPod (Switch to HOLD & back, then hold down MENU & center buttons until screen turns off)
Unhooked iPod from data cable
Hooked iPodback up
iTunes recognized and synched...

I don't know if this will help anyone, but I'm hoping that it will. Post back letting everyone know if it succeeds or fails.

Similar problem with my Ipod touch (1st gen). Itunes 9 updated and sync'd with my Ipod I unplug it and it doesn't contain any of my music or videos...I plug it back in and it tells me it has been corrupted... Restore process is no go, so I have a brick...one month outside of the warranty.

Best part was 9 trashed my old restores and didn't create a new one.
