3G OS 3.1 won't connect to iPhoto 08

Just updated iPhone OS to 3.1, now, when I launch iPhoto to sync/transfer photos taken on the iPhone, the iPhone shows up briefly under "Devices," then after a few seconds, it disappears from the list on the left side.

I'm running Snow Leopard on a MacBook. Haven't had any problems with syncing before. I have rebooted the MacBook and the iPhone, can't think of anything else to do to get it to work.

iTunes recognizes and syncs just fine, it's just iPhoto.

If it were just a few photos, I'd email them to myself, but I have a couple hundred. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks for your time!

I'm having the same issue: iTunes syncs with my iPhone just fine, but iPhoto and Image Capture do not recognize the device. I'm running Tiger with the latest version of iTunes and iPhone software. I suspect that it is the iPhone OS, since there are several other issues with this new device OS. Bad, Apple! You're looking a bit like a certain Redmond software company.

I'm also having the same issue. If I open iPhoto or Image Capture then plug my phone into my MacBook, it appears for a few seconds, starts listing the photos then it disappears. This doesn't happen in iTunes at all, only either of those two photo related apps. To test, I also loaded up a Windows virtual machine and re-plugged it into the same USB port with the VM in focus and I was able to pull my pictures off that way. I'm also on Snow Leopard 10.6.1 and iPhone 3.1.

have the same problem...iphone 3gs 3.1 and os 10.5.8. FIXED IT... You just have to delete ALL of the photos in your camera roll that were saved from emails or off the web. ANything you didn't take yourself with the iphone should be deleted. Then reconnect. It works. If they've valueable pics, email them to yourself before you delete. IT WORKS!

I had the same issue. Through trial and error, I discovered that one of the photos was somehow corrupt (in my case it wasn't a "photo" per se, but rather an image generated by a free kid's app on my phone and stored in the photo camera roll. Once I deleted that photo, I was able to retrieve all the others successfully. FYI: I'm running Snow Leopard and iPhone 3.1

I was having the very same problem here with my iPhone and iPhoto '09. When I connected my iPhone, iTunes would launch and sync correctly, but iPhoto would not launch, nor would it see the iPhone as a device from which it could import photos.

Following the advice in this thread, I deleted two photos my wife recently emailed me from her iPhone and when I reconnected my iPhone, iPhoto launched immediately just as it should and I was able to import all of my recent photos.

Strange indeed, but that does appear to have been the cause of the problem.

Thanks to CamNY and anyone else who suggested this solution to the problem. I was dreading the thought of re-initializing my iPhone to solve this issue.
