3G OS 3.1 won't connect to iPhoto 08

Just updated iPhone OS to 3.1, now, when I launch iPhoto to sync/transfer photos taken on the iPhone, the iPhone shows up briefly under "Devices," then after a few seconds, it disappears from the list on the left side.

I'm running Snow Leopard on a MacBook. Haven't had any problems with syncing before. I have rebooted the MacBook and the iPhone, can't think of anything else to do to get it to work.

iTunes recognizes and syncs just fine, it's just iPhoto.

If it were just a few photos, I'd email them to myself, but I have a couple hundred. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks for your time!

Launched Image Capture.app, no iPhone. Unplugged and re-plugged the iphone and got the same response as iPhoto, the iPhone appeared for about five seconds, then disconnected, showing the message, "No scanner or camera connected."

I've repeated this process several times, program recognizes the iPhone, then the connection breaks.

This does NOT happen with iTunes, once connected, stays connected.

The only thing that has changed since I successfully transferred photos from the iPhone is the Snow Leopard and the iPhone 3.1 upgrades. I'm wondering if something in one of those events is causing a connection issue with the phone in programs other than iTunes.

OK (well, not OK really, but you know what I mean

Possibilities:

USB issue (unlikely, I know, since it worked fine before and still does with iTunes). Try using a different USB port. If you;re connecting via a USB hub, try connecting directly.

Permissions issue: do a repair permissions on your hard disk

iPhone glitch - try a restore on the iPhone

Restored the iPhone and the connection problem still exists. Restarted my mac, the same.

Ended up trying the trial of PhoneView and it recognized and kept the connection, so I bought the full version so I could copy all the photos, but it still bugs me that the connection to iPhoto is not working the way it is supposed to.

Any other ideas?

Thanks everyone for your input!

iPhoto opens, but the phone never shows up. What's even stranger is that after I open image capture and all of the pictures load from the phone, then it does show up in iPhoto. It has to read through all of the photos in image capture first.

It's pretty strange. I've never had any issues before and am pretty savvy when it comes to computers (specifically Macs). I figured it would be a software glitch that more users would encounter, but there aren't too many reporting this issue.
