No Genius Mixes on iPod Classic 160GB?

Hi.
I was planning to get a new iPod classic just for the Genius Mixes (and the capacity too a bit).
(I bought the 120GB for Genius last year and am very happy with that purchase)

But Genius Mixes are not in the classic specifications page.

Has anyone with a brand new classic had the chance to try Genius Mixes on it?

If if is not there, then there is no Apple portable device where I can sync all my Genius Mixes (my iPhone is crying for 10 more GB when I try to sync the Genius Mixes).

Thanks in advance and have a nice day,

Jérôme.

When posting replies can people please be more specific - saves asking a myriad of questions later.

For example the post above about the exact type of iPOD classic.

Notwithstanding that as I said in my post, I've checked via iTunes and apparently 2.0.1 is the latest software for my iPOD assuming that they haven't released 2.0.3 (what happened to 2.0.2) in the last few hours...

Also - why aren't Apple responding to this as they probably have the detailed answer that will shut us all up...

I understand that - however, it would seem common sense to have information such as confirmation of the latest firmware for all types of devices on the support pages. From previous experience with my iPhone and original nano, iTunes is not consistent when searching for new software/updates even when forced.

I find this frustrating as Apple should deliver this kind of information as a matter of course rather than leaving it to the user community to resolve.

UPDATE - it seems as though only the more recent iPOD Classic 160Gb will be getting 2.0.3 - from some research it seems as though the 120Gb is still at 2.0.1 unless Apple are just phasing out the updates to various devices.... Who knows cos Apple aren't exactly telling!

Hi There,

A few things to check...

Since iTunes is up to date, go in and ensure that you have genius enabled... Without genius enabled and your iTunes sending information to apple to get the results neither genius or genius mixes will work.

Also for the new 160GB edition iPod classics, you need to get the latest firmware... When the iPod is connected, click on the icon in the left hand side of iTunes. Click the "Check for updates" on the screen where you see a image of your classic.

If an update is found it will install... The firmware 2.0.3 for the new 160GB iPod classic has the Genius mixes feature enabled.

Once you have the latest iPod firmware, and genius enabled and results returned re-sync your device. Those results will be returned and stored on the iPod for you to use on the go.

To play these on your ipod, go into music and see if you see "Genius mixes" under cover flow. If so there you go for the new mixes feature included with iTunes 9.

As for regular genius, you accesss this once the results are returned by pressing the middle button during song play, and then you will get the genius wizard menu where you can choose what to do.

Hope this helps you!
