Home Sharing On, But Not Showing

I have two Macs here, both with iTunes 9 and Snow Leopard. They both have Home Sharing turned on, yet the Home Sharing menu item isn't showing up in the sidebar on the left.

What am I doing wrong? Why do neither of us have Home Sharing (little house) icons?

Hello

I had the same problem until I realised that the 'Done' button in the Home Sharing window does not mean you are 'Done' with the setup but means 'Done' with Home Sharing.

When you setup Home Sharing do not click on 'Done' but instead click on the House icon to the left.

Mine worked perfectly once I realised this.

Hope this helps.

I have two PCs both with windows vista. My main library is on my desktop and my secondary library is on my laptop. Home sharing isn't showing up on either of my computers. Home sharing is turned on on both computers, I'm using the same account, I made sure Look for shared libraries and Share my library on my local network were checked on both computers, I made sure that both libraries had different names, both computers are authorized and both computers have the latest version of itunes (10.1).

I've done everything above and then some. iTunes set up properly, computers authorized poperly, network working perfectly, Home Sharing works on other devices (like Apple TV), latest version of iTunes. I've shut down, authorized, deauthorized, turned on and off home sharing, and everything else. No matter what I do, the shared iTunes libary does not show up on one of my laptops (both are windows 7). Apple support is zilch. No success with anythin on the web.

I have an iMac, MacBook, and PC. Home Sharing works between the iMac and Macbook. It does not show up on the PC. All computers are on the same LAN and all settings have been double-checked as per all recommendations in this thread. I'm thinking this must be some kind of bug with the latest release of iTunes because it was working with earlier versions.

In followup...I have the PC firewall completely disabled. I can see the PC iTunes library on both of the Macs (and can play music from the PC library on the Macs). However, I cannot see any of the Mac libraries on the PC. There is no SHARED section showing up on the PC iTunes. All iTunes are at the latest 10.1.1 version. This is very odd. I even tried to "Share my library..." from the Preferences on one of the Macs, but that didn't help at all. Wish I could get this working.

Hey - I am getting the same issue here -

got 2 macs showing ok on apple tv, but win machine is not.
been through everything with support - disabled fw, uninstall reinstall of latest itunes - turn on homeshare using the same account on all machines - still homeshare is not showing on the vista machine. its very disappointing.

has anybody been there and managed to solve this?

I had the same problem on all of my laptops. Apparently, with the new updates, the homesharing is not automatic. Even if it is turned on, you have to adjust your settings. In Itunes you need to click on the Edit tab and go to Preferences. Under Preferences, click on Sharing tab and check on Share my library on my local network. If you do this on all Itunes accounts it will fix the problem.
