iTunes 9 and iPhone OS 3.1 Smart list syncing problem

All of my iTunes Smart lists (Top Rated, Recently Added etc) after upgrading to iTunes 9 and iPhone OS 3.1 are all mixed up on my phone. The songs appear how I want them to in iTunes but not no my iPhone 3G with iPhone OS 3.1, instead they are all mixed up.

Help! does anyone know how to fix this?

Is anyone else having the same problem?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6), iPhone 3G - OS 3.1

Ok, here is the EXACT thing that I have on my iTunes that is working on my iPhone. (I haven't checked on the Shuffle yet) First screen--iPhone itself--nothing checked except Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected. Now Podcasts Tab on iPhone screen (right side of iTunes--center really--at least not the left side) Checked Sync Podcasts at Top. Also Checked Automatically include ALL episodes of SELECTED podcasts. Now here is where it seems weird. I have NONE of the podcasts themselves checked. Scroll Down further and there is a check box for Includes Episodes from Playlists. I have both of my Smart Playlists checked and they are both working correctly.
One more thing, I have in my Smart Playlist a rule saying Play Count is 0. That way after I have completely listened to the entire podcast it will be deleted from that playlist. If I am halfway through the podcast--that is saved and it starts playing at that point.

This did not work for me. Using the above procedure, smart playlists with live updating still do not sync properly to the iPhone 3.1

I forgot to say that I did turn OFF Live Updating in the Smart Playlist edit screen also.

OK, so it doesn't work perfectly but with that Live Updating turned off at least it SORTS correctly which is the most important feature that I need. When I listen to podcasts I like to have them in Date Added order so that I listen to the oldest first. So that is most important to me, more so than the Live Updating.

It was a problem for me with OS 3.0, and it is worse with OS 3.1. My smart podcast playlist is sorted by rating in iTunes, but randomly on the iPhone. In order to achieve proper ordering in OS 3.0, I remade my smart playlist without using the "Limit to..." option. With OS 3.1, remaking the playlist made no difference. Resetting my iPhone also made no difference. Apparently, I will have to toggle "Live updating" off the several times a day I sync my iPhone.
Apple, PLEASE fix this as well as the excessive "Updating Library" delay! I submitted bug reports after both iPhone OS updates, and I suggest those of you experiencing problems to do so as well.

I am have experienced a variety of problems with iTunes 9/3.1.1 on my iPod. I'm am disappointed in Apple that these bugs, which were obvious to any iPod podcast playlist user, were not detected by Apple software quality control. Even more disappointing is that the problems have not been corrected by now. I'd like to go back to iTunes 8.

The worst problems are:
* a special and new strategy for syncing podcast smart playlists is required
(described by users in these forums)

* when you finally get the podcasts to sync and show up on the iTunes view of the iPod playlist,
the podcasts on the iPod are in some random order.

* when one creates a ordinary playlist from the podcast smart playlist, the iPod podcast is in order,
but the iPod **plays them out of order**. I can't imagine why anyone would want to listen to
podcasts in random order. This bizarre behavior apparently cannot be turned off.

Time to get a fix out, pronto. You might have someone actually check to see if it works before distributing the update.
