I was thinking the same, like why you didn't keep a copy of all your music and such on a external, or flash drive.

If it wasn't purchased through iTunes, you won't be able to put it back on your PC, you will have to go download your music collection all over again from where-ever you got it. The only things that will transfer from your iPhone to your PC is what you have purchased from iTunes (Apple INC.)

First, install ITunes and enable disc usage on the phone.
Then with the phone plugged in right click on it from my computer and go to explorer options.
Check the 'show hidden folders and files'.
Double click on the phone from 'my computer'
Find the music folder and drag it into your 'my music' folder.
Go into ITunes and add the folder to your library.
Been there done that!
