No such problem here.

Try restoring your iPhone with iTunes from your iPhone's backup.

If no change after that, try restoring your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup. If there is a problem with your iPhone's backup, restoring your iPhone from your iPhone's backup will also restore the problem.

No problems here either. Two 8GB 3G's both upgraded perfectly. Both are actually performing better with 3.1 than they were with 3.0! Much zippier interface since the update. I know others with slowdown problems after updating to 3.0 had luck with trashing and re-downloading the 3.0 update and restoring as a new phone with the freshly downloaded update. As a previous poster stated, restoring from backup may just restore the problem. Setting up as a new phone, and preferably with a freshly downloaded update, will probably be your best bet. A quick search of the forums should take you to the thread with instructions on how to delete your current 3.1 update file download and download a new copy.

I've tried all the suggestions here of a reset first, followed by a full wipe. It's the 3.1 update that is doing something awful regardless of what I try. My iPhone 3G is running so slow it is practically useless. It takes several seconds to respond to anything, from pressing the home button to trying to scroll through phone numbers, to clicking on numbers to dial, to actually dialling to make the calls, to loading Safari, to loading any apps at all.

Every finger gesture and tap, I wait and I wait before something happens in response. It's like the iPhone's not got enough memory any more, so could this be some kind of leak? Something is also gobbling up the juice, the battery is fully charged first thing in the day and completely dead even if I haven't touched it within four hours.

I need to downgrade. I cannot wait like I have to do with my Apple TV all the time for an update to fix an update that might take months to arrive. So please, anyone, how can I roll back to 3.0 so I can use my iPhone again?

I have the same problem. I upgraded to the 3.1 OS from 3.0.1. My iPhone 3G is not unlocked or jailbroken. After the update, the phone's functionality slowed severely. Pressing the home button, side scrolling to other home screens, placing calls, and internet connectivity all were severely slowed down.

I have iTunes 9.0 installed on a Mac Mini with Snow Leopard 10.6.1

I then, restored the phone using the iPhone restore option and then restored using last saved backup. No improvement.

I then decided to restore to full factory settings again and setup the phone as new. Some improvement noted, but the as soon as I started installing apps again the slow response in all the aspects above, returned.

I have one of the (recently removed) free memory apps, MemoryInfo, and it seems the phone on its idle state is using above 95% of the total memory. I did also notice severe battery usage, after just 2hrs of idling the phone the battery drained to 65%.

Apple Engineers - If you do read this, please issue a patch for OS 3.1 or allow us to downgrade to OS 3.0.1 until this problem is resolved.

Thank you.

I am also experiencing this problem on my iPhone 3GS. It was running great under 3.0...very smooth and responsive. However, now that I have 3.1 installed, it takes several seconds to respond when I "slide to unlock" and the animations are very slow and choppy. I have tried restoring from a backup...have not tried to restore to factory settings yet, but will try that next. I should note that I do have a fair share of apps on my phone (~150), but I don't see why that should turn it into a brick...it was running fine with 3.0.

This is a huge annoyance. Why should I have to spend so much time fixing a product that supposedly "just works". Please fix this Apple, or let me know how to downgrade.
