All three of you with the Invalid Argument problem:

An interesting problem that I have not seen or heard of. Could you answer a few questions about your network setups? This would make it much easier to figure out what is going on and possible actions you can take to correct the problem.

Jailbroken? - Yes or No
Router? - Make and model, year purchased
Encryption? - None, WEP, WPA-psk, WPA2-psk, other
MAC address filtering? - Yes or No

Let us know.

I updated to the 3.0 and am having connection issues. I try to connect to "Twitter" and I get the message "cannot open page. safari cannot open the page because the server cannot be found". We took the touch back to the apple store thinking something was wrong with the wifi connection and the guy told us that some sites like twitter, facebook, etc. have not been updated to work with the new version..had I known i was going to have these issues, I would not have paid the $10.oo to update until all the sites worked with the 3.0.I didn't really see that much benefit of the update other than some apps require the 3.0 version. Hopefully, the sites will have a patch and be up to date shortly..We are also going to try updating our router, because it's about 4 years old. Maybe that will help.

I'm having the same problem with an Ipod touch I bought today to replace the one I fried Monday. It was nearly 2 years old, and I had yet to update to iTunes 9. I've never had a problem with wi-fi before. I put in the password like before and it was accepted. When I try to access the internet (and itunes but not YouTube) i get the 'invalid arguement' message.

Jailbroken? - don't know, but don't think so
Router? - Netgear RangeMax WPN824, probably 3 years old (at least)
Encryption? - not sure
MAC address filtering? - again, not sure

Please help!

LittleBev,

Did you talk to a Genius at the Apple store or just some sales person? Whoever told you that these sites "have not been updated to work with the iPhone/touch" was flat out lying to you. In fact, the new Facebook app has been winning rave reviews.

Since you have an older router, try getting a firmware update for it first. If you find that the model is no longer supported by manufacturer, just buy a new one. Your real problem is that you appear to be connected to your network, but your router has not issued you an IP address. You can verify this by tapping Settings > WiFi > and the blue (>) next to your network name. Chances are that you will have an IP address starting with 169.x.

Update the router, change your encryption to something other than WEP, and log back onto your network by using Settings > WiFi > Other network and typing in your network name, security method, and password.
