Error -9812 and -1202

OKay. I am in /tears/ from frustration at this point. Apple support has not been helpful in the least.
When I try to buy anything from iTunes or look at my account into I get the following error:
We could not complete your iTunes store request. An unknown error occured (-9812). There was an error in the iTunes store. Please try again later.
Then when I try to fo go the redeem page I get:
We could not complete your iTunes store request. An unknown error occured (-9812). There was an error in the iTunes store. Please try again later.

Also, when I try to use my iPhone to redeem my code the Redeem button doesn't even appear. Please please help!

I want to say I have the same problem. It used to be error -9812 but I downloaded the new itunes software and now its -1202; I hoped my problem would be solved with the download but obviously not.

The frustrating part is that everything worked fine before the error occurred. I am on a very tightly secured computer network, but downloading music and such is something that is let by and worked normally before (in case that seems like it could be an issue).

Also, I've looked up the solutions to this problem and they didn't work. I use vista, and a lot of the solutions are listed for XP. When I try them out either I can't follow the same instructions due to differences in the OS, or files that are in one aren't in the other. Several talk about .dll files, and one in particular (depending on which solution I've looked at - others have more of this) is said not to even exist on the computer: initpki.dll I thought maybe that was a problem so I downloaded it, put it in the right folder, but got the same thing.

Please, please someone figure out how to solve our problem. I used the itunes on another PC of mine, but my laptop (which is all I have with me right now) has this issue. I have $50 in gift certificate balance on itunes but i can't use it where I am now due to this issue 😉

Three things:

1. If you look a the Certificates snapin for your 'Local Computer' in MMC and only find a few Trusted Root Certificates then you should run the Microsoft May 2009 Trusted root certificate update from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=f814ec0e-ee7e-435e-99f8 -20b44d4531b0&displaylang=en

The above fixed the 8192 problem for at least one person that I know of.

As a matter of fact it wouldn't hurt to re-run that whether you think you're missing Ceritificates or not.

2. If you ever had your computer connected to an Active Directory domain then there might be a problem with your Certificate policy. The Local Computer Policy MMC snap-in might show you some settings that you can fiddle with.

This fixed a raft of problems for people to do with updates and sign-ins an so on.

3. Apple now have a support document that points to to an MS knowledgebase article on how to troubleshoot certificate problems on Vista. It's long and involved and the final step if nothing has worked is a reinstall. You should check out the article here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822798

This last one was presented as a solution to problems that were fixed by the first two so try those first.

Best of luck!
