Every single time Apple updates iTunes the Airport cuts out and Apple remains completely silent not offering any help to their customers. It's Friday night and all I want is some tunes coming through my speakers but Apple can't get it together to put out a an update that jives with all it's devices. Is Apple a real company - I can understand some issues in the early days but this far along they should recognize this as a big issue and ensure airtunes is considered when updating iTunes. C'mon and get it together boys.

In my case this problem began with the upgrade to itunes 8.2.1 No matter what I've tried my powerbook gave an error-3256 (now it's the same "network connection failed" error as the other folks have listed here) when trying to connect to remote speakers on either of 2 airport expresses. Wireless print works fine thru 1 of the expresses. Also my wife's imac(2-3 years old) works fine thru either express even with itunes 9. I keep hoping for an airport express update which cured the problem several upgrades back but this time Apple hasn't released anything. Using a linksys 54g router with cable internet

I also frequently get the "An error occurred while connecting to the remote speaker "myairport'sname". An unkown error occurred (-15000)." message when trying to connect to my Airport Express using iTunes 9.

I have this problem too. After upgraded to iTunes 9 my Express doesn't work anymore. Airtunes simply doesn't find remote speakers.
    I'll wait a bug fix.

I upgraded to OS X 10.6.1 and had no problems with both a g and n Airport Express. After upgrading to Itunes 9, I lost my ability to stream wirelessly to either of my AE's. I'm getting the -15000 failure. I've tried all the suggestions to no avail........ VERY frustrating. This is the last time I will blindly allow an Itunes update. In the future, I'll wait a few months for Apple to work all the bugs out.

Have the same problems. It also hangs my wireless network and had to frequently restart my router. This has happened in iTunes 8 before, so shame on Apple for releasing an untested product. Very disappointing.

I am having the same problem here. Someimes it will connexyt, and cut out with itunes 9 and snow leopard. I have also notice static when using sound programs like Finale 2010, Sibelius 6 and Logic Studio.

    Come on Apple!

I was having all of the same problems described in this thread. Knowing there were problems with iTunes 9.0 and Airtunes, I updated my MacBook to 10.5.8 and iTunes 9 while keeping my Intel Mini (from which Airtunes is used most) at version 8.2. Airtunes failed with the connection error message mentioned earlier in this thread. My housemates had no troubles with their MacBook Pros using iTunes 8.

While doing other things, I unplugged the two Airport Expresses for a few hours. Once plugged back in and waiting a few hours, I checked to see if iTunes 9 still had problems with Airtunes. This time everything worked quite smoothly.

I didn't change any settings. I did, in the process of moving things around in the apartment, reset my entire network (Comcast cable modem, Linksys router, bridged Airport Extreme (dormant), and Pogoplug). I also use a new Touch with Apple remote.

I guess I can deduct for those still having trouble that it may be best to reset all the devices in their network and maybe, if available, use another device with iTunes 8 to test Airtunes.

Good luck. I'll update if things go haywire again.

    Thank you HarborAce.

I was having the same problem. Itunes was recognizing my remote speakers, but wouldn't connect (-15000 error). I'm using Itunes 9 and Snow Leopard.

I took Harbor's advice and turned off my power block that my modem, airport express, airport extreme base station, etc., are all plugged into. I waited about 30 seconds to let the juice drain out of everything. I turned it back on, and let everything reset. Now airtunes works perfectly!

Just a note I was having the same problem. I have Airport Express with remote speakers connecting to airport extreme base station over wireless. Absolutely no problem seeing the speakers or getting into either airport via the airport utility app. Never had an issue, then started getting 'error connecting remote speaker 'my speaker name' "network connection failed"

I tried everything, rebooting, restarting airport express. then I tried something that should not have done anything, but did: I restarted my airport extreme base station (the airtunes speakers are NOT connected to this, it is simply my main router, and seemed to be working fine).

    Voila, problem solved. weird.

I took the suggestion to shut down my Airport Extreme. After starting the Airport Extreme back up, Airtunes connects to my Airport Express units again! Thanks for the help....

Yes I suffered the same sort of fate. Upgraded to iTunes 9 and now can only connect 2 of 4 airport express as speakers. If I try to connect more they alternately stop working. What a pain!!!. Is Apple falling into the MS fault of releasing things before they are totally tested. I am all Apple now and I am very disappointed not to mention angry. Also , when the 2 APx are working , seams the sound quality is not very good.. Have 2 Yamaha RX-V2700's that have an iPod enhancer....even that does not help.

Apple needs to get on this NOW!!!!

iTunes 9.0.1 just released, still a problem. My airport express is still a brick. What the **** is wrong with Apple? Crap.9.0.1

Sorry I lost track of this thread... been really busy at work and at home with Baby so I kind of gave up on this issue.

I haven't tried the newest iTunes yet..... however...

I updated to iTunes 9 on my wife's laptop which is also Vista-64, and it is connected wirelessly to my Extreme via N-wireless. This laptop is able to connect to the airport express absolutely fine with no issues.

But my home PC, which uses a wired ehternet connection to the router, still will not connect to the express.

I was really hoping the new itunes update would fix this but from responses I am seeing, I am not so hopeful. I will still try and update tonight though.

I wish I could try a wireless connection on my PC since it seems there's no problem if both the PC and AE are both wireless... but my PC has no wireless capability and I have a hard time justifying purchasing a USB-wireless adapter that I would never need without this bug.

fwiw I have never tried using my Apple-TV as remote speakers. But it functions fine for everything else (in sync + stream mode).

I am thinking of taking the ethernet from the AppleTV and plugging the Express into the Extreme with that ethernet jack instead.

I assume the wireless is fast enough that it won't slow down the AppleTV?
