I have just upgraded to a new iMac which came with 10.6 already installed. I have updated to 10.6.1. I am trying to add my network printer - a Lexmark Optra S 1250 - but when I click on the "+" sign to add a printer in Print & Fax pref., no printer list appears. I thought it may have been that no drivers were installed so I have done that with the installation disk, which reports a successful installation of "all drivers". Still, nothing appears in the list. I have restarted the computer and tried different user logins to no avail. Help!
Thanks
How do you connect the printer to the computer? If you are using USB, you need to first confirm that the printer is powered up, then confirm the usb cable is connected well both sides. If you still don't see it in Add Printer, I guess you should try a different USB cable.
I have just posted about a very similar problem! I have tried everything with my Samsung CLX-3175 on Snow Leopard and I cant get it to work. All I see is a scanner appearing in the add printer & fax window but not the printer. (And even though the scanner appears it does not work.)
I took the usb cable I use to connect it from and old inkjet printer I used a while back. Its the one that has a normal USB on one side and the big boxy one on the other.
wow... I did not have high hopes for this because the last cable was USB 2.0 and the new one as well but as soon as I plugged in the new one everything started working immediately!! No setup, nothing. Just works! THANKS!!
I
think that the Optra S 1250 can be connected with either USB or Ethernet, but not both at the same time. If you're connected by Ethernet, I would disconnect it and plug in the USB cable and see if the printer is recognised. If it is, then there's a problem with the way the printer talks over the network. if it isn't, then it appears that the Optra S 1250 does not support SL at this time. Contact Lexmark Tech Support.
Hi - Thanks for the response. I am connecting via ethernet cable to my router. It worked very well under Leopard. I did have a USB to Parallel cable connection awhile ago but Leopard didn't like it so I went to the Ethernet. What I really posted about was why I am not seeing any printers listed at all in the "Add a printer" window. I thought it would show the whole list and let you select a driver. Seems strange to me. Anyway, still no luck getting the printer list up. Any help aprpeciated.
Hi - Thanks for your response. The Lexmark web site indicates that Snow Leopard includes a driver for this model - Optra S 1250. The connection via the Ethernet to the router has worked well under Leopard. Leopard didn't like the USB-Parallel connection (this is an older printer!) at all. I use the printer over the LAN with other computers in the house so I need the router connection. Thanks
I've talked to support at Lexmark and they say drivers will be available very soon.
Their comment was basically that Apple released Snow Leopard 2 weeks earlier than
the manufacturers were told so they were caught flatfooted.

Thanks for the information. I had a long session with Apple technicians and they were surprised to see the driver listed on the Lexmark web site as included in 10.6 when their own documentation said it wasn't. Your response answers the question. I guess I will just have to wait and see. Many thanks. Rudy
