Help uninstall avast! demo

Please help. I downloaded avast! demo. I wish to uninstall it and cannot. I have moved it to trash, but
when I try to empty, I get this: The operation cannot be completed because "com.avast.MacAvast.MAD" is in use. I am not mac savvy. The avast forum says just drop it in the trash. Obviously, that did not work. Since I did manage to uninstall the download pkg. and some other part, I do not see how any components can be "in use". It does not show up in finder and I've got the following in the trash, but they won't empty--com.avast.MacAvast (socket) Contents,, Resources(comavast.MacAvast.MAD). I am betwixt & between. Half uninstalled and half unable to uninstall. I need some help please and in real simple terms.

Remove the app from the trash

Open the app, go to the menu>Avast!>Quit Avast!

Now drag the app to the trash.

If the app still refuses to empty from the trash because of some hidden running file, restart your computer & then empty the trash.

AppCleaner is a free app you can use to trash applications as it gets rid of wayward files some apps install throughout the os. This app can be found at Versiontracker and Macupdate.

Thanks. I just dragged what I had in the trash out to desktop, restarted, and this time it emptied without that message saying it was in use. Whew. Thanks.

I recently tried to uninstall avast for mac and followed the instructions I got from the web. Everything worked fine until I tried to empty the trash. I got the following message: The Operation cannot be completed because the item "com.avast.macavast.MAD" is in use.

Can anybody tell me how sort out this problem?

ugh...ok, so i'm definately between a rock and a hard place. I got the persistence mode off, and put it in the trash, and it wouldn't delete because of the "in use" thing. so i took it out of the trash, and it won't open because it can function in this "architecture?" i'm also a fairly new mac-user. help, please!
