Volume icon no longer excepts scroll wheel...

I can verify with the Apple mighty mouse that the scroll ball does indeed change the volume from the icon slider control from the menu bar.

Current version: 10.6.1

Try this:

From System Preferences, Mouse:

Verify 'Scrolling:' = '360 Degree'.

That is the setting I currently have.

Using a Logitech Bluetooth mouse I am having a similar issue. The volume does scroll when I hover the mouse over the slider but not when I hover over the the volume icon which I am pretty sure it did before.

This is very clearly a change they've made in 10.6. Doesn't matter what mouse I use - the scroll wheel now DOES NOT affect the volume if you simply click the volume icon once and simply roll up and down. You must now move your mouse DOWN somewhere onto the actual slider to enable the volume to be controlled by the wheel.

Not sure why it was done this way, but Apple: please change it back! I know it might seem trivial but it is an issue for those who want to adjust quickly but my job requires me to adjust the master volume about 75 times/day and the little movement of putting my mouse down onto the actual slider adds up to a lot of lost time.

If anyone has found a workaround to this please let me know.

Hi. If you leave your cursor on the sound icon, the scroll wheel doesn't work anymore. But, if you click the sound icon and then move the cursor down a bit AS IF you are going to click and drag that ball up and down, you'll find that the wheel can now control the ball. Kind of annoying, but better than no wheel at all.
