I upgraded my 3G to 3.1 yesterday. Now my visual voice mail is no longer working. Not only that but when you go to Setting-General-Network-Cellular Data Network, the VVM section has disappeared.
I've tried resetting Network Settings a few times but that doesn't help. I did a restore to backup as well and that hasn't helped. Since I upgraded to 3.1 I'm now running AT&T carrier 5.0.
Any help would be much appreciated. I'm afraid to bring iPhone
Not only that but when you go to Setting-General-Network-Cellular Data Network, the VVM section has disappeared.
Settings > General > Network > "Cellular Data Network"
never has appeared in AT&T iPhones, (and no VVM setting either). Are you using an "unlocked" iPhone? What carrier?
I have the exact same problem. iphone 3G, upgraded to 3.1 on 9/9/09 with itunes 9.
did all the resets.
in response to the person asking about
Settings > General > Network > "Cellular Data Network"
that is not where i reset my network settings.
i went to settings > general > reset > reset network settings.
i did full restore last night. VVM just not working. I can still check if I call my number but no notification, none in the list, it doesn't know about my greeting, etc.
to fix your visual voicemail after doing tthe 3.1 update. go to Settings > General > Profile > then remove the BENM.at Call your phone, leave a voicemail and it will work!!!!!! Hope this helps
I had this issue with no visual voicemail or no voicemail badge showing up and GASP having to go the old fashioned way and call in for VM. istopped by Apple yesterday and they tried everything to fix it, once they had me remove the old file (forgot what it was called) that I downloaded to enable tethering, they had me reboot and it worked find and all of a sudde I had 10 voicemails in a second.
Similar problem here... had originally tried out the tethering hack discussed elsewhere, but never really used tethering. VVM was gone after 3.1 upgrade... Did a complete Reset and Restore via iTunes 9.0, but no luck. Searched net for several hours and finally found this article.

Basically, did a Reset Network under... Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
AFTER I spent 3 hours + with ATT on the phone having them reset everything and completely reset and restore my phone - which didn't work at all. They didn't have a clue!!!!1
I have a 3Gs which I upgraded to 3.1 on 9/9/9. Just today I noticed my voice mail not working. But sometimes the phone never even rings. I can hold my iphone in my hand and see it has plenty of bars. I'll use my wife's phone to call my iphone. But no ringing. It just goes straight to voice mail. BUT...it never shows up at all!
And to try Keveon's fix...but I have no "Profile" option under the Settings > General. Any suggestions?
I'm having the exact same problem. I don't think it's because of the tethering hack, though. I did that a long time ago, restored, and things were fine. Now, I'm upgraded to 3.1 (weeks later) and no longer get VVM. My old voicemails are still there but I'm not getting new ones. I think it's any issue with the firmware and the carrier settings.
I'm on AT&T and the Cellular Data Network does show up in my settings, but not the VVM heading, nor do I see "Profiles" at all.
Anyone have any answers yet? I've tried everything listed about restoring network settings. The only thing I haven't done is restore my phone and I can't lose everything on it. I spent an hour on the phone with AT&T and couldn't get them to force new carrier settings on both of my lines, either.
One thing that I tried (and it has worked so far!) has been to update my carrier settings with what came bundled with 3.1. I should have already had them but applied since I upgraded, so I don't understand why it helped, but it did. You can find the 3.1 carrier settings in Users:(name):Library:iTunes:iPhone Carrier Support:ATT_US.ipcc
Hold option and click update on a Mac and choose that file. It gave me my VVM back!
Not 100% sure, but I think this relates to the tethering hack. If you had the tethering hack, when you upgraded to 3.1 you lost VVM. By doing a restore, you're back to Apple/ATT standard software, so you lose the tethering hack. I suppose you could redo it, and I might, but I wasn't using it often, so perhaps I'll just live without it.
Finally fixed VVM... I tried everything posted so I finally talked to someone at Apple and they said to try going to Setting-General-profile and if you have anything in profile (AT&T US was what I had) delete it and it should work. What do you know it did. What a simple fix that AT&T can't even fix and they are the ones that caused it.
