Right, so I'm getting this too. I wouldn't have thought of "charts" but I have a large-ish spreadsheet with charts on some sheets and only when I opened those ones did Numbers '08 crash. A spreadsheet without charts seems fine.
I moved the Numbers plist files to the desktop, with no improvement.
Will have a look a Permissions, but this must be a bug with Snow Leopard... done,
Certainly not.
A bug in the system would strike in every user account !
and there was a permissions repair ("private/etc/postfix/main.cf.default"), a simple "repair" (same file), and two "Warnings":
SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
And the same message for:
"System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DesktopServicesPriv.framework/Versions/A/Resou rces/Locum".
Often, when there is an important upgrade, Apple changes some permissions for security reasons.
In this case, Disk Utility is a bit 'fooled' and reports oddities which aren't real ones.
I haven't used this particular file in month so older versions have scrolled off Time Machine ... most frustrating.
One more time an example of the fact that Time Machine is not a good backup soluce.
Am using the latest version of Numbers '08.
Wasn't planning on upgrading to '09, but will have to do so???
Not required.
Here Numbers '08 behaves well under 10.6.1
As a buck is a buck, given the fact that we are in September, I would not upgrade to iWork'09 now.
I would wait january 2010 as it's the habitual upgrading month.
An interesting thing is that I can see the file data including the charts in Quick View ... just can't open the actual data.
When a doc open in an account but doesn't in an other one,
(1) the doc is not corrupted
(2) the problem is linked to files of the account not files shared by evey accounts.
Such corrupted files may be
(1) preferences ones but you tried to remove them
(2) fonts available in the account's fonts folder:
<startupVolume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Fonts:
(3) cache files which may be hidden
This is because culprits may be hidden files that a maintenance tool like Cocktail may be useful.
(2) Download the trial version of Cocktail for Snow Leopard from:
http://www.maintain.se/cocktail/index.php
Run it to:
• Rebuild Launch Services database
• Update locate and whatis databases
• Clear system caches, component caches, Directory Service caches, dynamic link editor's (dyld) shared cache, kernel caches, user caches, ColorSync caches, Dock caches, Java caches, QuickTime caches and font caches (including font caches created by applications from Adobe, Microsoft and Quark)
• Clear trojan horses and worms such as Astht (AplS.Saprilt, Hovdy), Inqtana, iServices, Leap (CME-4, Oomp), RSPlug (Jahlav), Lamzev, PokerStealer or other malwares that may harm your system in any way.
• Clear CUPS (Common Unix Printing System) job files, core files, virtual memory swap files and other temporary files
• Clear Internet caches, cookies, download lists, form values, history files and page icons created by Safari, Camino, Firefox, OmniWeb, Opera and Shiira web browsers
• Search for corrupted preference files
• Clear log files (manually or automatically rotate and/or remove archived copies of log files)
