O2 SIM CARD NOT RECOGNISED IN UK IPHONE?!

My IPhone is stuck on the 'plug into itunes' screen. I cannot turn it off and it will not restore because it says the O2 sim inside in not compatible.

I have tried other O2 sim cards.

L300-16L, Windows Vista
