printer driver for Canon MP520

I've downloaded and installed a driver for the above. When i go to
select a driver it doesn't show up. When I look in Other, it shows a list of files ending in .fz, none of which match my printer

I tried using the Gutenprint MP500 driver. It does everything but print the contents of the page

Hello kevcott9 and welcome to Apple Discussions.

If the printer is connected directly to the Mac via USB, then it should automatically select the installed Canon MP520 driver. There is no way you can browse to the driver, that is why the Other is not working for you (and the files end in gz which stands for gzip).

If you have the printer connected to the Mac via some other means, such as wireless router or shared from a PC, then you have to use the Gutenprint drivers. The default v5.1.3 included with Leopard doesn't list the MP520 as a supported printer, but if you download v5.2.4 from Sourceforge and install, you will find the MP520 in the printer list. Here's a link to the download page.
