Freezing on "OK to Disconnect" screen

I purchased the 5g Nano yesterday, installed the 1.01 upgrade, and synched my music. Now, whenever I eject the Nano from iTunes, it sits spinning at the "OK to Disconnect" screen for 10 to 15 minutes. If I reboot the Nano, it sits at the Apple logo screen for 30 to 45 minutes.

I've tried wiping the Nano multiple times and still get the same problem. Is anyone else experiencing this? It's very annoying. It happens every time I try to eject.

To go into disk mode, unplug the ipod from the computer, reset it (hold down the centre button and the menu button until the apple symbol disappears and then reappears) and then once the apple symbol comes back up, press and hold the centre button and play/pause until the screen changes to say it's in disk mode. Then you can plug the ipod into your computer (it'll appear in a windows one).

Then you just have to use the restore function and make sure you don't add any smart playlists.

I got me replacement iPod today and it's doing the same thing. It does appear to be the smart playlists. I copied content over to it one tab at a time and ejected the iPod after each to test. I had copied some artists, podcast, photos, movies, and all was working well until I copied over 3 simple smart playlists. About to try some of the reset suggests listed in this thread. Wish me luck.

i have had the same issue - well kind of - i'm getting stuck on the 'connected' screen

i had my iPod ordered online, as the 16gig models aren't available in Australia yet... received it yesterday and loaded everything onto it

with only 11gig of music, it came up with an error saying that i did not have enough space - which is odd, because there is plenty of space

then iTunes was stuck on 'updating iPod, do not disconnect' and the iPod is on the connected screen. when clicking on the sync button in iTunes, it would say that it could not find the iPod - even though it was still connected to the machine

rebooting the iPod gives me the apple logo for at least an hour or so... then it comes on, running as slow as all **** and freezing all over the place - i'd click on a section and it would not open it for minutes

trying to do another sync with my iTunes and the same loop happens

i've tried restoring it twice, reinstalling iTunes, disabling the smart playlists, almost everything

calling support they have told me that it's DOA stock and they are going to replace it... but something tells me that this problem is quite common? i wonder what it is?
