Freezing on "OK to Disconnect" screen

I purchased the 5g Nano yesterday, installed the 1.01 upgrade, and synched my music. Now, whenever I eject the Nano from iTunes, it sits spinning at the "OK to Disconnect" screen for 10 to 15 minutes. If I reboot the Nano, it sits at the Apple logo screen for 30 to 45 minutes.

I've tried wiping the Nano multiple times and still get the same problem. Is anyone else experiencing this? It's very annoying. It happens every time I try to eject.

I have exactly the same issue with my son's macbook(it takes 1 hour to unfreeze) . I talked to Apple support and they asked me to try with another MAC. It actually worked: no more freeze. They told me then to re-install Itunes 9 on the 1st MAC (specific process to uninstall) and start again. Unfortunately it did not work (still that same OK to disconnect screen)...

I have the same issue. There doesn't seem to be any way of turning it off, either - it stays on the apple screen indefinitely, regardless of what I do, including resetting it.

I'm going to return mine to the store and get a refund. At least my four year old nano actually works, even if the battery isn't that great.

I was able to get around this somehow!

I returned the iPod and the replacement did exactly the same thing as the first - synched with the computer, accepted an eject and then showed the ok to disconnect screen after it disconnected.

But I was able to put it into disk mode (reset and then centre button and play/pause while it's showing the apple logo), upgrade the firmware, then it died again, then it didn't work.

So I unplugged it, put it into disk mode again, put it back into the computer, iTunes picked it up again, and then I was able to restore it. This time I let iTunes pick the tracks for me and synch it automatically (no control from me) and it automatically disconnected itself once the synch was complete without me having to eject it.

Hopefully this works for someone else. It's not ideal to have no choice about what tracks you use, but maybe Apple will patch it eventually.

in case it's relevant, mine was a black 8gb ipod nano.

That is definitely concerning that your replacement did the same thing. I'm wondering if it is any particular content. I copied a variety of things on to my iPod before I disconnected. Playlists, artists, podcasts, photos, and a movie. I also turned on the option to only copy checked songs.
When I get my replacement I'll copy things over gradually to see if any of those things caused the issue. What type of content did everyone else copy over?

Hi there,

I have exactly the same problem. Anyway I managed to restore my iPod and started to sync music WITHOUT my smart playlists.
And it worked perfectly. So i decided to create a new playlist and put in all my files from my smart playlist.
So I had exactly the same number of songs. And it worked.

It seems as it is a problem with smart playlists. I got a problem with them on my iPhone as well.
