Downgrading iTunes 9 to 8

I agree with all of you, been using mac since ever since and the snow leopard and itunes really suck, apple's attempt to try to police users is gonna lead to its downfall what happen to plug and play or upgrade with ease of use...THE NEW ITUNES SUCK!

I did what you said, GangstaPenguin, and it worked like a charm; I have iTunes 8 back in service. The only problem is that I can't connect my iPod Touch running 3.1.1 because it says I need the latest version of iTunes (i.e. iTunes 9)... Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get my iPod to work with iTunes 8?

I never thought I'd say it but I HATE iTunes now because I refuse to use version 9.0. What junk. And I've purchased thousands of dollars of music from iTunes over the years. I don't know what I'm going to do. This version makes it unnecessarily difficult to browse and sort and find music. It is really bad. On my iMac I have version 8 and on my MacBook Pro version 9. One example - I can bring up the same exact artist on each yet the order of popular songs is completely different. The feature I miss most if having a list of music up from an artist and being able to go direct to the respective album, artist, name, etc. Apple if you are listening go BACK to version 8.

Allthough restoring one of the older versions of the library did lose me some stuff I imported. But its totally worth it. 😀

No I can actually USE iTunes again.
8 is my lucky number and it will stay the end of the line for iTunes for me.

We should organise a 8.2.1 fanclub community (on facebook?) :P

Actually, for (me), iTunes 7.4.5 is the ticket of my choice. (And I successfully installed in Snow Leopard after using it until the very last day "Leopard" lived in my MacMini)
iTunes 7.4.5 allows me to use the "multiple art" per track and/or album (PROPERLY)!. In further versions this is a mess.
iTunes 8 has this option too, but works so buggy that it's worthless and so is the brand new iTunes 9.
To explain this problem here would be off topic, but I posted it some time ago here (Apple Discussions) and it's still a problem unresolved.
Apple doesn't care about serious collectors and serious music organizers.
Instead, they have take time to develop "iTunes LP" wish will bring more money (to them).

I spent two hours today loading and unloading 9.0.0.70 trying to get it to work on my XP system. The only way I was able to get a working copy of iTunes was to downgrade to 8.2.0.23. Some minor damage to my library and respective artwork.

I think I will wait a couple of weeks the next time I am prompted to upgrade to a NEW iTunes version.

If you’re having problems with songs skipping or being ignored altogether, Apple TV not being recognized, iPod or iPhone not registering correctly, or whatever, then I suggest either spending hours on the phone with Apple support, or simply deleting 9.0 and going back to 8.0. It’s easy enough to do, although the Apple techies will tell you that you cannot do it. I did a search for “iTunes 8.0 for Mac” and downloaded the older version in seconds, and had it up and running like new within minutes. I saved my iTunes Music Library.xml file to my desktop, so I could later import all my playlists again, and that was about it.

awesome tip, thanks you are a life saver...I can't spend my life watching a "beachball" even the simplest actions took an eternity of spinning ( G4 iBook 1.42, 10.4.11)

I hate iTunes 9 as well and this worked great.

By the way...if you're going to do this. Make sure you sort your music by the date it was added and be sure you have backups for any music you added after the upgrade. (I copied it right from my iTunes library onto a flash drive).

These directions are spot on!! Thank you so much. I reinstalled 8.2 and guess what, I woke up this morning to all 24000 of my songs back on my IPOD!! Unlike with 9, I would get about 835 after it said it copied about 8000. I will stick with this version until **** freezes over..

Totally agree. The new iTunes store is a PIA to use. What was Apple thinking?

I've downgraded. I can actually use iTunes and my Mac again. Still don't understand why cpu was @100% playing a song.

I followed the instructions and have iTunes again yea!, but lost my playlists and ratings. The itunes installer ignored the library and made its own new one anyway. Any way around this? Time machine maybe? --- Although I haven't had much luck recovering things with T M.
