Sorting Problem in iTunes 9

I am not sure if it was called the grid view in iTunes 8.

But with that I could split my iTunes window into two parts, where the top part had 3 small windows - Genre, Artist, and Albums. And the bottom part had all song names.

So it was easy for me to select Metal from the genre window (narrowing the choices), then select Metallica from the Artist window (narrowing the choices even more), and finally select a specific album, eg. Kill 'em All. After these three clicks, the bottom part of the iTunes window will ONLY show the songs from the Kil 'em All album and nothing more. So if I wanted to listen ONLY to that album songs, I could do that.

I cannot do that in iTunes 9. I think it is frustrating. I can search in iTunes 9. Yes. But . . .

What if I want to listen to only the songs from Metallica's black album, Metallica? Typing in Metallica, shows me all the songs and albums I have of them. Then how do I only sort the songs from the album titled Metallica?

I should not have to create separate play lists for all the 300 albums I have in my iTunes, right?

Or am I missing something?

It might be worth noting that the new vertical view also doesn't work properly (surprise surprise, he says, while he downgrades to iTunes 8.2)...

In iTunes 8, alt-clicking on an arrow next to an artist or album would take you to browse that specific artist or album, which was a great shortcut for the browse columns. In iTunes 9 this is broken in the NEW vertical view, but if you switch to the old (better) horizontal view, it still works... phew.

Anyway hopefully I should be back in iTunes 8 in a few minutes and this horrible nightmare will be over.

Worst Apple upgrade I ever can remember. And I've been using Macs since the 80s.

Or, perhaps that's the way it is intended to work. No particular reason to expect that both views would work exactly the same. Personally, I also prefer the old view but, since it's still right there and easy to access, I have no complaints.
