You have the same board I do. Try downgrading iTunes to 9.0.0

Juxtaposed...I cant see why downgrading to 9.0 could possibly help when its a hardware issue.

I understand your reluctance, but it seemed to work for me. I can sync without issues after downgrading. What's the harm in trying?

after I plug in my iPhone every USB device in my system shows an error in device manager. this didn't happen on my same motherboard when running vista x64 so the probl must be win 7 related. just wanted to through my two cents in that I also am having similar problems. my motherboard is intel dg965wh. so, not a p55 chipset and still having problems.

Its not about reluctance juxtaposed, its about being a hardware issue not a software issue.

Problems on my new HP Pavillion dv6t quad laptop. Using Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-720QM Processor (1.6GHz, 6MB L2 Cache, 1333MHz FSB). Can't sync. Inconsistent and random failures ranging from inability to sync only pictures to completely making the iPhone unrecognizable to any iTunes computer requiring a Restore.

iPhone syncs fine on other XP desktop (DUO processor) as well as similar Windows 7 laptop using a DUO processor. Almost the same laptop except for that Core i7.

Tried latest version of iTunes as well as older 9.0 as recommended in thread. Problem still exists. In fact tried all troubleshooting tips listed to no avail.

I should mention fresh install of Windows 7 on brand new laptop and iPhone 3G.

I have this problem only on my p55 system running Windows 7 64-bit ultimate. None of the workarounds have allowed me to even connect.

    i7 860, EVGA FTW 200 MB

    All updates installed.

However, I have NO ISSUES with both Windows 7 32- 64-bit on non-p55 boards. Coincidence? Maybe. Installing the iTunes update on my P55 system bricked my phone forcing a restore and now it will not sync (or connect) on that computer.

When I went to the other system, my older comp running 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate, I originally got the error (cannot connect - exception blah blah blah). However, I uninstalled iTunes in the order Apple suggests (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925) and then reinstalled iTunes (obviously using the 64-bit version). After a restart, I had NO ISSUES syncing my phone. Before connecting the phone I made sure I deleted the files in the following location: C:\ProgramData\Apple Computer\iTunes\SC Info (I read that in some apple post, but forget where I got it from).

I did the same thing in Windows 7, 32-bit and had no issues. I believe my connection problems on my older systems were due to my phone getting bricked on the P55 system during the iTunes update.

Having tried everything I have read on the posts and forums on my P55, I am GIVING UP! Nothing has worked and now am cynical that anything will until Apple issues an update. In the meantime, syncing on other comps! Best of luck to all.

    Hello,
    I was exp. the same issue (Core i7, Windows 7x64, P55 Board, iTunes 9.0.2, Iphone 3G 3.1.2).

    Here is what I did:
    1. Downgrade to iTunes 9.0.0 x64
    2. Make sure not to use any network shares within iTunes (only use local drives for database)
    3. Do not sync photos between iPhone and iTunes

That's how it works for me o_O

    Hope that helps...

Fixed by changing Windows 7 energy setting related to USB ports. Windows 7, by default, will automatically turn off its USB ports to save energy. My problem was it did this while syncing.

In Windows 7 x64, go to the Control Panel, go to energy settings, and disable the auto turn off of the USB ports. Restart system, and sync iPhone with iTunes 9.0.x without any trouble.

Does this work for anyone else, or is the problem something else?

I just tried this. Unfortunately did not work for me. ASUS P7P55D LE. When i start iTunes it says "cannot connect to iPhone because Apple Mobile Device service is not started" twice. So although the service is set to automatic, i still have to start it manually. after this, when i open iTunes,it says "iTunes cannot connect to this iPhone because an unknown error occurred (0xE8000065)." as i type this im alt-tabbing to get specific error info and am noticing the hex number is different than before. I want to say the error was 0x800006B the first time.

Yeah thats a classic P55 error. With XP there is no error message. It simply doesnt finish.
