I'm having a problem syncing my 1st generation iPod Touch. It basically just freezes during the sync process. This occurs as it is backing up the Touch. I've noticed that the sync process has been taking hours lately most of that time during the backup. Any suggestions as to what may be causing the problem or how I can fix it? Im not sure if this is relevant but I've done all of the current upgrades to iTunes and the Touch. I've found this thread in the forums, "http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2155566&tstart=120".
They appear to be having a similar problem but don't mention backups. Could the process described at the end of that thread also provide a remedy for me? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Same thing happening with my 1st gen touch. Regretting that new firmware update. It is hard not to be cynical in thinking that its one of Apple's ways of getting you to buy the newest models. Do they create these updates and only test on the newest hardware?
Thanks for the replys guys. This morning I disabled the iPod Touch and went thru the "reinstall new hardware" process described in the link in my original post. Thought that might help resolve the problem but it didn't. I then uninstalled iTunes and then reinstalled, still no go. I haven't tried a reset to restore to factory settings. The main reason is I don't think that the problem is with the iPod Touch. I think it's in the syncing process, in particular with the backup. During the sync, the backup process writes an unbelievable amount of files to my
\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\ folder. Last time I checked there were over 75,000 (and still growing) files in that folder all very small in size. Does anyone know if there is a way to force NO backup during sync? I'm pretty sure that's where my problem is.
