MACBOOK PRO & SNOW LEOPARD - OVERHEATING

Hey everyone, I have a macbook pro, early 2008 model 15 inch, 4gb ram, 320gb hard drive.
Since installing SNOW LEOPARD, my machine is now overheating.

This was an issue I believe with the previous version of Leopard, but a patch was made by apple, and the overheating issue was fixed. But I'm guessing they may have forgotten about this particular problem with the new OS.

Does anybody know anything about this or having the same problem ????

I'm on a late 2008 Macbook and experiencing a similar issue. My fan will come on and the computer boil away even when idle. I never had any issues with overheating before the SL upgrade. Now instead of 6h battery life, I have 1h if I'm lucky. I'm very very unhappy. Now I can't use my laptop at work without dragging the powercord around the hospital.

OK. Two things have happened.

1) The problems I got rid off by using numerous system resets – are back. It just took a little while, then the temperatures where up in 70-90ºC again.

2) Apple released a "Performance Update 1.0" today, "addresses intermittent hard drive-related stalls reported by a small number of customers". I did the install – have Safari, Mail and iPhoto running - the temperature is down below 50ºC and no fan is on. Lets hope this solves our problem... 🙂 Maybe Apple really was listening to our thread?

sorry for the spelling I am dislex..........

I have a old 15" MBP 1.8 core duo and when running Leopard the CPU tem was reading between 56 doing nothing and 71 under avige load and peeked at 85 when showing QuickTime video now doing nothing it runs at 65 and under avige load 71 and I dear not try a QuickTime video.

This is something at I would like Apple to look into.

Like many I tried resetting SMC and PRAM, standard smc reset and "six time reset". Sometimes it worked, sometimes not. When it worked, it was for a short while: one hour or two or till next restart.

Yesterday morning I downgraded from 10.6.1 to 10.6. At first glance it was a success. After a few minutes I noticed weird behavior like Safari (Firefox, Camino) becoming unable to connect to Apple.com (and some others) or Software Update not functioning. A mess.

So yesterday night I re-installed 10.6 a second time. I checked heat and fan (SMC control), did a Sofware Update (10.6.1), took a cup of tea. Process activity dropped from 50% to 10%, heat from 70C to 45, fan from 3600-6200 rpm to 1800. This morning all those indicators are still normal.

Is it a real success? I don't know yet because I did'nt install "rosetta" (like I previously did) in order to be able to run Quicken 2007. So...

i just installed a brand new hard drive and the problem of my computer being slow is gone. but even now im still having the overheating problem. i forgot to have the guy look at the fan to see if its working properly. i have a feeling its not the fan because theres alot of other people having the same problem but who knows. when i have time im gonna bring my computer back to the store to have it looked at. o no! i just realized that my computer is still making the ticking sound! i think maybe that i might just need a new fan.
