Sudden problems with internet connection

Hello!

I just bought a brand-new macbook this summer, to replace my old computer which pretty much died. I've had no problems with it, but all of a sudden my internet connection keeps dropping out. It's gotten to the point where I cannot download or upload anything, or use programs like Skype or AIM because my connection keeps going in and out.

I honestly have no idea if the problem is with my computer or not. I'm in Paris for the year, and am staying in a hostel-like public housing situation. The problem could be with the wireless here, although since it's just public wireless I wouldn't know. It was working fine until two days ago.

If the problem did happen to be with my computer, is there anything I could do to stop the connection from dropping in and out?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.7)

Just wanted to chime in on this.

I have the same issue. Macbook looses network connection every minute or so.

Been happeneing for 6 months give or take.

Its gotten to the point where a router reset needs to happen now as all devices (even wired clients) frop connection.

Its so frustrating that Ive given up trying to find a fix and dont use the macbook anymore.

i have been experiencing the same issue for past 3-4 month and i too stopped using my mb which is a SHAME. i called apple and their explanation was there are things that hinder wireless signal b/t the router and the computer. well.. how come it worked fine for past 2 years in the same setting and not now? doesn't make any sense. looks like so many people have the same problem. has anyone filed a complaint to apple or got it repaired under apple care or something? i think it's ridiculous that apple can't provide any solution to this problem and just let people deal w/ basically useless computer device. please!!! so frustraiting.

I just wanted to add my name to the list, if you guys find anything out on this issue please let me know. My macbook has worked like a charm for 3 years now, but all of a sudden the internet cuts in and out ALOT. unplugging the router/modem and rebooting the computer seems to be the only thing that helps temporarily. I feel like i have done most of the basic troubleshooting and nothing is working more than temporarily.

Same problem here.

I have had my Macbook since 2006 and have never had a problem with the Airport until about 5 or 6 days ago. It won't connect after waking from sleep right away like it used to. It takes about 15 minutes or more to finally connect and then the signal is weak. It slowly builds back up to four bars.

I wonder if it has anything to do with any of the software updates I downloaded. Until I downloaded those, I never had a problem.

I've used it for three years on the university campus, never a problem. I've used it for about a month at my new apartment, never a problem. Until now.

Here is what solved it for me.

Purchased dual band aiport extreme. setup per instructions.

purchased and installed airport card for macbook (upgraded to n)

Reset all airport expresses (three of them) to new network

tossed netgear router in trash

no more problems..

Seriously, for the life of me I couldnt figure out what was wrong for months. Had to be the router....

Two days and no drops. Knock on wood. er... white plastic

Hello all,
I have a 2006 black MacBook that began exhibiting this problem the beginning of August after I returned from a week in Holland on business. When I was there, I had it hooked up to the Ethernet connection for the first time since I bought it, so that I could get company email while at our warehouse. Once back in the States, I began to have problems connecting to the WiFi networks I previously had no trouble accessing. These include my home network (an Airport Extreme A1143, 802.11n), the radio station I do a show at (Airport Express) and the network at the factory I work at (who knows). And the problem has gotten progressively worse. It started out just being a weaker signal than usual. Now I can't get a signal at all, or sometimes it comes on but then fades out. I used to be able to get my home wireless while I was sitting outside on the deck. Now I'm lucky if I can get it in the same room.
I'm pretty security conscious and download all relevant updates as a matter of course. I might go along with the updates being the problem, but we've downloaded the same updates on our iMac (2 Ghz Core 2 Duo, same version OS) and are not having connectivity problems there. It's sort of disturbing that so many people seem to be having this problem, that the problem seems to be affecting a variety of platforms and that no one thing seems to fix it. But I'm open to suggestion...
