Yeah, I had seen that but balked a such a radical step. Upon researching the issue found this;
and this software fix;
(which is also a bit intimidating for a novice)
which i have now done.
it is now running on power adapter with battery installed; we shall see.
I still have a question about the fans.
istat shows that the fans are not running,
does anyone know the parameters, what temps, kick the fans on ?
is there a way to test the fans to see if they are in fact functional ?

You might want to have a look at this little program called SMCFanControl. It's freeware, and is updated regularly.
I use it on my 15" Macbook pro (late 2008), and find it excellen t.

Had +*Fan Control+* installed (the system preferences) for about 6 months. Over the last week I have found that the usual areas that were hot before I installed the software have recently gotten hotter. I have also found that the temperature is not reducing no matter what settings I have set in the programme.
Can some one help with this.
