Running Games in windows

I've tried installing a game in windows called Supreme Commander, and everything goes great. After it installs, I try to run the game and it tells me to insert the original CD/DVD. Well, there's only one CD in the package, so something must be up. I thought that maybe I had a bad disc so I got another one and reinstalled it only to have the same error. Any ideas what the problem might be?

I am having a problem with Oblivion in MacPro/Windows 7 though it only started recently. The shortcut crteated by game install used to start game was to OblivionLauncher which now looks like it is starting game but does not.

I made a shortcut to Oblivion.exe in \Program Files and if the launcher fails I then use the .exe shortcut which gets game going.

Following shortcut is to Windows 7 Forum/AppCompatibility. Whether you have W 7 or not, the Video driver, Direct X and other mentioned could be sources of problem, solution.

As suggested I ran from Comand Prompt: sfc /scannow and also did
Start->Run: Dxdiag
Though neither showed any error, my OblivionLauncher shortcut got the game going.
