I've tried installing a game in windows called Supreme Commander, and everything goes great. After it installs, I try to run the game and it tells me to insert the original CD/DVD. Well, there's only one CD in the package, so something must be up. I thought that maybe I had a bad disc so I got another one and reinstalled it only to have the same error. Any ideas what the problem might be?
I still had the original CD mounted. That's what's so wierd about this. Even with the original CD in mounted, it still won't load the program. That's why I originally thought there was something wrong with the CD. Is this a normal problem or is there something I'm missing?
I am having a problem with Oblivion in MacPro/Windows 7 though it only started recently. The shortcut crteated by game install used to start game was to OblivionLauncher which now looks like it is starting game but does not.
I made a shortcut to Oblivion.exe in \Program Files and if the launcher fails I then use the .exe shortcut which gets game going.
How do you create a shortcut for it? I'm not sure if this will work either because the game never started up. I'm open to try anything, though. It's wierd becasue I've never had this problem before with any other games. Thanks for your help!!!
Following shortcut is to Windows 7 Forum/AppCompatibility. Whether you have W 7 or not, the Video driver, Direct X and other mentioned could be sources of problem, solution.
As suggested I ran from Comand Prompt: sfc /scannow and also did
Start->Run: Dxdiag
Though neither showed any error, my OblivionLauncher shortcut got the game going.
So, I feel pretty stupid. Apparently, the game won't start up unless you have the latest patch installed. After I downloaded the patch, it started up and runs like a champ. Thanks for all of your help, everyone, I appreciate all your suggestions.
