no mail in gmail inbox on iphone

My inbox in gmail on iphone is always empty. Messages from inbox that I delete on computer will show up on iphone in deleted box and sent messages show, but not inbox. Why? and How to fix?

iphone 3g, iPhone OS 3.0.1, actually I'm now 3.1 but had same problem since 3.0

delete the gmail account and then set it up again.

Just discovered all new message also show up in my trash bin before I trash them. In other words when I do get a gmail message, on my computer it goes to my inbox, on my iphone it goes to my trash bin. I can move it from trash to inbox on iphone. But how to make it go to inbox to begin with.

how do you have your account setup on your computer?

when you configure it on the iphone do you use the preset gmail setup?

what i am really asking is... are both your computer and iphone using IMAP access to your gmail? it almost sounds like you are accessing via POP on the computer and have gmail set to "delete gmails copy when POP".

You're right! It is a pop account on computer and imap on iphone. How do I fix it?

if you want to keep it the same setup:

open a web browser and goto gmail.com , login, and choose 'Settings' (upper right corner) then choose 'Forwarding and POP/IMAP' and next to POP DOWNLOAD, item 2 select: 'Keep Gmails copy in the inbox' then click save changes.

if you want more consistent operation i would change your desktop mail to use IMAP just like your iphone does. to make the transition easy simply create a new account on your desktop mail client and setup the gmail as IMAP that way you can move over any emails you might be saving etc in the POP account setup.

Thanks! Though I'm not sure why it worked. When I went to configure and enable Imap on google sight it was already preset. And I couldn't change it on my computer because they offer no instructions for Entourage. But, I now get my gmail in my inbox on my iphone!

Hi folks,

I wonder if you can help my receving email problem after spending 3 hours on phone to Apple trying to configure my Sky email to work on my Iphone 3g. Basically it wouldn't let it set up as either a pop or imap account via iphone set up - wouldn't validate properly. I've enabled IMAP on Sky as well as pop. So in the end we tried syncing via itunes. This worked but then it wouldn't accept the Sky password. So then we changed the password and that seemed to work - well now I can send emails and also receive emails from myself - ie if i email myself from my Sky email on the laptop it arrives in iphone box but nothing else does and inbox is constantly empty!! Please help if you have any ideas. I just don't know what to try next. My inboxes on my iphone work fine using a google email and mobile me but it just doesn't seem to accept the one email i need it to - Sky!! Many thanks for any tips.
