Voice memo app wont record for longer then 30 minutes

So, I've had this Voice Memo problem for about two months now, but I only just got around to actually researching it because it finally caused a major issue. I'm a journalist and depend on my iPhone to make recordings of interviews and conference talks. I had been working around the issue, but now I've missed about 10 minutes of a crucial interview.

Apple, you need to fix this problem! It is one of the dumbest changes I've ever seen you make. Especially when you don't tell your customers about the change.

I also reported the "bug" to apple in the iPhone feedback section.

I have a 3GS and my wife has a 3G - she has this problem and I do not.

Weird that there is no response from Apple on this yet.

Has anyone found a workaround?

Add my voice to the chorus. I've already submitted a bug report at http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

I first experienced this a couple of months ago but only got around to researching it now. This is a real issue and I hope they update it soon.

Also I wish Apple would take the same tact with updates to the iPhone OS as they have with OS X. It seems that iPhone updates are few and far between, whereas OS X updates (a product with a significantly larger code base than iPhone OS) gets updates every couple of months.

Apple, please issue lots of small incremental updates for iPhone OS where you can fix little bugs like this. We would rather that then the current method of saving everything for big updates and then leaving us in the cold for these small but critical issues.

I am another 3G user and I have the same problem. It's absolutely mandatory for apple to fix this as soon as possible because as a student I rely on my everyday job on my iPhone features, and I need to record conferences now! Please release a fix... other applications don't allow for the same easy transfer through itunes!!

Me to I have the same problem, had recordings over 2 hours in august 2009 , and now they all get cut off around 33-36 minutes.
I have plenty of space left on the Iphone. I have not hit any key by accident nor received calls during recording. Pleae advise if you already found a solution. Thanks !

I have reported the bug as recommended by another user. Anyone found a work around for this issue? I use this voice memo for recording lectures at school.

This issue was not addressed by the last update. So why do you keep this forum if you don't listen to your users?? Very very disappointed

iPhone OS 3.1.3 patch didn't do anything, recording still stops at 74,3 MB

Same problem here. Very disappointing that nothing is being done about it.

Recorded a lecture for an hour. Have been making two 30 minute recordings to make sure it doesn't shut off on me. Now it shows a 26 minute memo, but there is nothing there!!!! It seems to have not recorded, but it shows the size and length of the memo!!! uuuuuuggghhhh!!!!!! I need this lecture information and this app is really letting me down. It seems to have not been fixed in this latest upgrade. Why isn't Apple addressing this?????????

I'm having the same problem. You guys screwed up my illicit recording of a secret Dave Chappelle show, jerks. I've tried recording with 2 different apps: Voice Memos, and Recorder. Both cut off near the half hour mark (Voice Memos 29:44, Recorder 41:54). Apple, no rush or anything.

Got in touch with Apple. Funny at first cause the the first guy I spoke to from tech support, said, after I explained the problem "Well.. Software does have limitations you know?" LOL! Then he pointed me to other non Apple apps that might solve the problem.... I couldnt believe my ears!

Anyway... After I insisted he passed me on to a senior tech who was really helpful. He asked me to download the iphone configuration utility

and run it while the iphone was connected to the mac and at the same time start recording with voice memo.

He asked me to send it to him along with the files of the recording itself. This was a couple of days ago and he did mention that it might be a while until he got back to me.

Has anybody done this before? Ive got no clue as to what this log means but its a start. Something seems to be not right. Maybe some of you could try it and see if you get similar results....

Would it be possible to some how take the voice memo files from pre 3.1, say from 3.0 and replace the ones in our current os? Downgrading them program in a sense without changing the os?
