SVCD & VCD: Play on WMP & Real but not on QT

I have QT 6.5.2 Pro and the MPEG-2 playback component.
I made a SVCD and a VCD with my DVD recorder(LVW-5005).
Everything plays and goes fine with WMP and Real Player.
Why can't QT even open them?
Examples of files: AVSEQ01.MPG (SVCD) AVSEQ01.DAT (VCD)

I want to use QT for editing my videos.
Any suggestions?
