iTunes not responding when syncing iPhone 3g

I downloaded the new iTunes along with the new update and all went well. I added some new apps yesterday and wanted to sync them to my iphone. The sycning starts as normal but then after it syncs my notes the progress slows dramatically and then my iTunes sort of crashes and it doesn't respond.
anyone having this issue?
i've rebooted my comp (MacBook Pro) and iphone numerous times to try to fix this and no luck

desktop, Mac OS X (10.5.4)

I am experiencing a similar problem. I cannot sync my music into my iphone even after I have restored the itunes application. What do I do? I have restored twice!

I've got the same issue going on. The funny thing is that when I first downloaded itunes the night it was announced I was having issues, but the following day & ever since then I've been fine. Now, tonight I'm just stuck "Syncing" and itunes keeps freezing up.

Mine hangs up forever on "backing up" (tried for 2 hours), if I cancel it, it syncs the rest just fine, but since I updated to 3.1 I have not been able to get even 1 backup! Anyone else having that issue?

Have you tried uninstalling itunes completely and reinstalling? (dragging itunes to trash, going into activity monitor and killing itunes helper, then going into accounts and disabling itunes helper from launching at startup - reboot, then clear trash and then downloading itunes from apple again and installing it)? If you don't delete any of your stored files, itunes should still recognize these after you reinstall it (music/apps,etc.)

yup ive done that a few times. itunes recognizes my phone fine. Its just the back up and syncing that take forever and makes my itunes freeze.

it sounds like some software you have in your iphone is not agreeing with the 3.1 firmware
I would get rid of some applications you guys dont need back them up and when you do a restore make sure it does not sync your applications. Work with the phone without any downloaded apps and see how it goes

I had the same problem with my Laptop. I read on another discusion to delete all my podcasts. I tried it and it worked. The second I connected up it started to sync. I also went into my iTunes account and deleted all my other podcasts to make sure I wouldnt have this problem again.

Ive got the same fault....only I cant even force quit itunes... this *** cos ive to hold the power button to force to reboot my macabook pro... not a nice apple experience... 😟

its not your software apple tech support had me wipe my harddrive and still the problem exist its the recent updates 3.1 and 3.1.2 they also had me reinstall itunes 12 times still have the problem somehow the drivers for the phone keep disappearing from my system and i have no other programs than windows itself. they also had restore the phone 4 times and replaced the phone twice.
