Canon HF200 - which recording mode?

I just got my new Canon Vixia HF 200. I know that if I shoot at the HD modes - MXP or FXP - that it will have to be converted when imported into iMovie. Should I then just shoot it in XP mode, which is the highest non-HD mode rather than convert down the HD mode.

WIll the end quality be better by shooting in HD, then converting or just should in the highest non-HD mode?

Thanks for your thoughts.
I am filming my debut of my new musical in a few weeks and want to get the best results possible.

Mac Pro 2 x 2.66 dual-core, Mac OS X (10.4.11), 16 GB RAM, 4 - 500GB HDs, Radeon X1900, 2 Dell flat panels, etc.

I have a Canon HF10. I shoot at the highest quality, 1080p (30fps is the highest framerate for me) footage the cam will give me. Imports aren't that bad with a fw800 drive hooked up to my UniMBP.

You have a Mac Pro, which is a lot more power under the hood than I got. I wouldn't worry too much about the import / conversion time.
