Where is the iMac G4(soccer ball) hardware test download. I have searched every known word and can not find it at Apple. I have the software restore disks but not a hardware test. Let alone any reference. Bill
When I looked there a few months ago, out of curiosity since I have more
than one iMac G4 and two different models requiring different tests, I did
not find one suitable for the iMac G4 series in any configuration.
If there is a page at Apple Support, I missed it. More than once. But I did
find some older and not applicable versions for much more ancient Macs.
To find the original software packet or correct version of Apple Hardware
Test (AHT) on disc is a search; sometimes people sell them at auction
or they throw away these parts to the original computer entirely. Some
of the older iMac and others had a separate CD that ran the AHT; later
the original Install/Restore boot disc DVD had a partition with AHT on it.
Wow! Amazing that Apple left these units in isolation. We had a little data corruption with Helix running in Classic and the Helix repair tech thinks it may be a hardware problem in the iMac. We are stuck with Classic and Helix for a liiiiiiittle bit longer. Thanks for all you help. Bill
The iMac G4 1.25GHz computer shipped with the AHT on the
original OS X installer boot DVD, and is accessible by alternate
boot method keyboard command to run the Test only.
Helps to know your hardware before fielding questions. Free
database download info such as MacTracker is very good; so
is everymac.com and find your model there.
PS: the iMac Software Install & Restore DVD for an iMac G4
17" 1.25GHz computer with superdrive, usb 2.0, etc should
have part number 691-4849-A , DVD version 1.0, AHT version
2.0.3, and shipped with OS X 10.3.2 as the OS version per
the disc set mine came with from Apple.
Hold Opt key to select AHT on startup; or hold C key on start
to use Installer or other options on boot install disc.
You nailed it! It was hidden on the DVD set I had in hand. The OPTION Key start up brought it right up.
Amazing how good it feels after the tooth is pulled. Thanks K
