new boot drive

My original 250 G hard drive is nearly full. I have purchased a new 1 TB drive and want to transfer everything to it. What is the best way to do this? Thank you in advance...

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.4.11), 6 G RAM

SuperDuper from ****-Pocket Software for making a bootable clone and then for keeping your bsckup/clone current.

Free for full volume copy. Read the PDF included.

Apple Disk Utility: Restore will also.

Carbon Copy Cloner.

And those are just the most common and popular.

Keep the old drive as backup but I'd get another for regular backups. Then I'd consider turning the 1TB into part TimeMachine and part emergency boot drive.

Fast cheap and popular: WD Caviar Black 640GB (or non-Black) $69-78.

If external...only a firewire drive will do. Have used Carbon Copy Cloner, and it is great!
Use it together wit the Lacie 500gb Rugged "pocket" drive...

This newbie doesn't fully understand your shorthand...my bad. I did look up Carbon Copy Cloner and I want to make clear that the new 1 TB drive will be internal and that want it to be the boot drive.

Look up programs, find downloads, check out reviews.

And of course has Apple Disk Utility, so look in "Help" menu for restore.

There are four drive bays. Boot drive, data drive, backup drive, and emergency boot drive.
