iTunes 9 error (-3259) and Firewall Port 3689

When I set the firewall on my mini to "allow only essential services"
my PB is unable to open the shared itunes library, and the following message
appears:

"The shared library is not responding (-3259)
Check that any firewall software running on either the shared computer
or this computer has been set to allow communication on port 3689"

How can I set up port 3689 so that I don't have to switch the firewall settings to
"Allow all incoming connections"? This mini is constantly connected and I feel
that "Allowing all incoming" may leave me open to exposure.

Regards

I have a similiar product (MyBookWorld white light), and i have similiar problem, error message -3260...allow port 3689 when connecting to MyBookWorld itunes server.

I eventaully looked at the itunes server logs and found some of the mp3 files could not be indexed and caused the itunes server to crash. I deleted the files in question and worked fine.

Here is the summary of how I found the files
1. Log on to Mybookworld web and turn off/on itunes service.
2. Log on to the itunes server webfront (also known as Firefly) http://mybookworld IP address:3689.
3. Go the Configuration page of Firefly web front and turn on server logging. Specify the file name and location e.g /etc/mt-daapd.log. Change the log detail level to at least 5.
4. Restart the itunes service from MyBookWorld web front.
5. Read the itunes server log either by using Terminal or FTP the file to your MAC. You need to enable SSH on MyBookWorld before you can authenticate via Terminal or FTP. Basic Unix knowledge is required.

I too had the same error and was able to solve it. The error resulted because of MyBookWorld was not accessible via iTunes from any of my computers. I updated the firmware on my MyBookWorld and rebooted the unit and it worked. This is what I did ...
1. Logged into MyBookWorld as the administrator
2. Switch to 'Advanced Mode' (this link is in the upper right)
3. Then clicked on the 'Update' icon.
4. Followed the update wizard from there.
Note: Once the update wizard moves to the screen where it is waiting to reboot you need to be VERY patient. My update and reboot took almost 15min; the screen said it could take up to 30min. You don't want to mess this up because you may cause your MyBookWorld to become inaccessible.

Good luck.

Hi, I hope you did not enter into the web browser "http://mybookworld IP address:3689" literally. Mybookworld IP address denotes the IP address of your hard drive and the address depends on how your home network is configured.

If you are entering the correct IP address and still having the issue, it is likely the itunes server has stopped or halted during scanning.

Go back to basic - try access the Mybookworld web interface. If you can access that go into the advanced features and restart the itune server, you should then be able to access the itunes server on port 3689.
