Having major problems setting up my Gmail account in Apple Mail 4 on my new Mac Book Pro Snow Leopard OS. It just won't connect to the Gmail server. Anyone else having this problem? Anyone know a way round it?
How were you previously connecting to the Gmail server -- for IMAP or for POP access? If POP, then Mail 4.x defaults to setting up as IMAP, and if not selected via browser access in Settings to enable IMAP, then that might be the problem.
If desiring to setup as POP, then after filling in the info on the first setup screen hold down the Option key and the Create button command will change to Continue, and then you will have the option to setup as POP.
Hello... I have a similiar problem as above...when i type in "imap.google.com", i get an error that server can not be reached.. I can send e-mail from my mail application, using the SMTP setting, specified everywhere on the web, but i can't get to download any e-mail to my inbox. Furthermore, i get an exclamation mark next to my inbox.
My IMAP is enabled in Gmail, and the pop is disabled...
I guess I have the same problem. I tried to login in my gmail account (through the MAIL app) with the correct password, but it keps telling me that "Gmail IMAP server "imap.gmail.com" failed.. What should I do???
Guess What? I am having this problem too. Worked Great for about a week now it can't reach the gmail imap server. But my Google Apps Accounts for my website still work (so it's definitely Apple Mail) What's going on?
I just ran connection doctor and contacted the gmail servers, so that shouldn't be the problem.
Is your DNS finding imap.gmail.com and smtp.gmail.com? I would imagine the easiest way would be to use the connection doctor in Mail. However, you can type this into Terminal:
And when i ran the connection doctor from the mail application, it said that
"could not connect to this Gmail IMAP server. check the network connection and that you entered the correct information in the Account preference"...
I still can not get my e-mail into my inbox..
Thanx for your help in advance...
PS. one weird thing is that whenever i delete the account and try to recreate it, it defaults to username@mac.com Not sure if this is a clue to the problem i have. Thanx again

anagi, can you run the Connection Doctor in Mail and see what it says. Window Menu, Connection Doctor. If you get an error, click on the Show Details. Click Check Again and post the output of the connection Doctor details.
