iPhone stuck on apple logo after reset all settings

I just did a reset all setting through the setting menu on the 1st gen iPhone and now after the reset the phone is stuck on the apple logo with occasionally the "busy" circle rotating infront of it. I've left it for hours and still no progress on the reset. I'm really hoping to avoid restoring the phone, so if there are any other solutions that anyone can provide that would be very much appreciated!!!
