Preview icons

The Finder in Leopard has a new View Option called 'icon preview'. I'm not particularly fond of it since I almost always browse for files in column view and the icons are too small to see any details. Its nice that Apple gave us the option of turning off 'icon preview' under the View > Show View Options.

However, under Tiger, if one selected a plain text file then the column preview icon (at the right side of the column view) would display the first few lines of text in a perfectly legible format. Under Leopard, turning off icon preview does not restore this behavior. Instead the miniaturized illegible preview icon is always displayed. This disappoints me because those first few lines could contain some useful identifying data or a short ReadMe.

Does anyone know how to get this behavior back?
