Draw Braces "}" with iWork

Type a brace
Apply a big font size.



An alternate way is to use the formula editor: MathType but it's not free.

Are you trying to use the Draw with Pen tool? It take some practising to use but with that you should be able to make the "}".
Do you need too draw it? maybe it is better to use a drawing application like Eazy Draw or similar.

You could use a text box and put the "}"in it and make it larger.

Try the Character Palette>All Characters>Technical Symbols down at the bottom of the sheet. It may give you just what you want.

If you want to make the curly brace a "Shape" you have to do it outside of Pages in a drawing program and bring it back in.

I presume you want to do this because you want to put an image inside of it or use a blend, there would be no other reason why you need this.

1. Open a Drawing program, see the list here:

2. Type the } character and outline it (turn it into a drawing)

3. Save it as a .svg file

4. Open it with svg2key and convert it to a Keynote file

5. Open it in Keynote and copy it from there into Pages

If you just want it as a graphic, type it in a textbox as previously described and copy the box by command clicking on it, into the Preview application which turns it into a pdf. Save that and bring it back into Pages as a .pdf graphic.

As said you have the Draw Pen among the Shapes in the Shape button.

There is no luck involved here. One has to practise.

AWUG.org have somewhere a lesson on how to use it. It is for AppleWorks but should be possible to rewrite for iWork/Pages.

It would have to be amongst the worst drawing tools I have ever used and I have used a few.

Actually, MathType can be free. One can download the evaluation version and use it free for 30 days. After that time, you have the choice of (1) purchasing MathType, (2) deleting it from your computer, or (3) switching to "MathType Light". MathType Light is free, and it does much of what the full version of MathType does.
