While I'm painfully aware of the lack of a version of Adobe Flash Player for the iPhone, more and more Flash-based web home pages are not accessible to the iPhone. I also understand that Flash Player is not compatible with Apple's 'vision' for iPhone Applications. The problem we have is this increasing exclusion of Flash-based web sites and if what I understand about Apple's policy on iPhone Apps is accurate, then we will never have access to these sites on an unmodified iPhone. I can see that one of the problems is that Adobe Flash Player competes with the YouTube Player and possibly with iTunes movies.

Unless the web pages have a link for iPhones or re-direct iPhones accessing those pages to a non-Flash version of the web page, it seems likely that we are basically, well...screwed. Anyone have a different take on this?

Do we need an Apple-Adobe intervention? Perhaps over a nice hot mocha latté in Seattle...

Confused? No, not me.

I know where both companies are, their founders and their histories.

It was reference to Seattle being the birthplace of Starbuck's, which does have business partnerships with Apple.

I'm sorry I distracted you with my obviously wasted sense of irony. All I really care about is being able to access web home pages that require Adobe Flash Player on my 3GS.

I'll try to stay on topic and not make any effort to be humorous in the future. I can see humor is not welcome here. Pity.

Thanks for the clarification. My previous information came from another forum, which is why I asked it here. My sincere regrets for having inaccurate information.

For the record, I know your question was rhetorical. However, I clearly don't know why Apple or Adobe do anything unless it makes them money. I have no idea if the information about an Apple and Adobe collaboration on this subject is accurate, either. Ironic, isn't it? (That was rhetorical, too.)

After joining this forum two days ago, I posted a question and received two responses. The first was irrelevant to the topic and criticized me for appearing to be an idiot. This one was on topic and useful, but ended in a patronizing manner "...what you understand is inaccurate...".

Thanks again and goodbye.

Currently, the only way to have access to Flash is using some kind of a remote desktop controller. The best, (strictly!!!) in this respect, is Wyse PocketCloud - but, currently, without sound and with dismal frame rate (and also requiring you to have direct access to a Windows desktop via RDP). Another choice is Jaadu RDP, which has sound but doesn't (still?) have a thin Web client (and also suffering from the same problems - need for a Windows remote desktop you can access etc.) In my just-published full roundup of all remote desktop control apps, I've elaborated on pretty thoroughly on these questions - let me know if you need more info and I copy the relevant parts of my roundup here. (Sorry, I may not link to it here, albeit Google will surely find it for you.)

The Adobe CEO has clearly stated they are working on Flash for the iPhone and that they are receiving assistance from Apple engineers. Why would Apple be allowing their engineers to work with Adobe if their policy is to not allow it on the iPhone.

That was wishful writing on the part of Apple fan sites a year ago.

Adobe now is [more vocal about pointing out|http://macdailynews.com/index.php/weblog/comments/22918> that Apple simply won't allow Flash on the iPhone.

In the meantime, Adobe and RIM have announced Flash application support for Blackberries, and most smartphones will be getting Flash 10 support in 2010.

Few think that the iPhone will get a full version, due to the App Store. But hopefully it will get some kind of version.

Apple's revenue for the iTunes store and app store is set up to be a break even, which is included in Apple's financial reports. Apple's profit is on hardware - computers, iPods, and the iPhone.

This would eat into the revenue/profit for app developers. The 30% that Apple keeps for a paid app pays for hosting expenses, DRM protection, advertising, and credit card fees for each transaction. And there are a number of free apps that are hosted at no charge.
