disc drive making noise on macbook pro

i just got a macbook pro from best buy and when i insert a cd it makes a noise and its louder than my macbook..... is this normal???

Likely you are hearing the drive spin up, perfectly normal.

depends on what sound

Mine made a car crashing sound and left marks on my CD's and DVD's (round scratches)
It destroyed my SL CD, so i returnd my macbook and there replacing the drive and getting my cd back for free.

The same exact thing is happening on my macbook pro when I just inserted a dvd for the first time. Disk (which happened to be snow leopard) is toast so I'm totally going to the apple store tomorrow to get this one fixed.
