Since 3.1. Unable to make calls, text or go online unless I restart iPhone.

I know there have been a lot of topics on problems with OS 3.1, but I can't seem to find one similar to mine so thought I would ask.
I am a UK user and I have the 8GB iPhone 3G.

Since installing 3.1 I found a few serious problems which I didn't have before. The phone will work fine but will then encounter the following problems all at once:
- Can't make or receive calls (like there's no coverage).
- Can't send or receive texts (again like there's no coverage).
- Can't get online with 3G / Edge
- I will start an application, iphone tries to load, then goes back to home screen.

It seems the only way to to fix the issue is to turn the iphone completely off and then back on again.
Anyone know whats going on?

I'm having the exact same problems as everyone else.

The only way I can get my phone to work somewhat decently is to shut off the 3G network.

I've gone to the "Genius Bar" & received nothing but a restore. The exact same problems exist.

I have another appointment in 2 days. I hope I can get another phone or SOMETHING.

This is absurd. FIX THIS PROBLEM APPLE. PLEASE.

well add me to the list of many users, i cant make calls or text or search the web because my phone is CONSTANTLY in search mode for a signal. It CONSTANTLY locks up and i have to restart it like 3 to 5 times a day ( and restarting it is getting harder and harder as I go) Took me 5 minutes today just to get it to restart. _*THIS IS SOOOOOOOOOOO ANNOYING AND NEEDS TO BE FIXED*_ I feel like I am using my old piece of crap dell again. Also, my battery life is like 3 hours then i gotta charge it again. fun fun.

Bad news. What seems to be working for Chiburb2 failed for me in less than 2 hours.

" AT&T had me turn off the phone completely so they could send it an 'update'." (Or in my case, they reactivated the number.)

It did not work for me and AT&T tells me I should call Apple.

What I did find out is that Apple informed AT&T on Sept 28 that the 3G had a software issue that sounded similar to what we are experiencing when people went in or out of a 3G cell. Per AT&T, Apple released software to fix that which they said was available in iTunes. But that is not true per my checking my own iTunes.

(I am getting to the point of thinking of dropping the iPhone and AT&T. This has gone on too long.)

I have also been experiencing the problems of no internet access or ability to make or receive phone calls without shutting down the iPhone and restarting it. Has happened three times now since 3.1 was installed.

I had another interesting symptom last evening. I was listening to a radio station over the Internet using the WunderRadio app when suddenly the iPhone switched to playing music from my iTunes collection, even though it was still displaying the WunderRadio screen. Really strange!

When will we get 3.2???

I said in another thread and I'll repeat it here...the only way to get through to Apple and AT&T is to ask out of our contracts and switch to another company.

My contract is for cell phone service. I can't get service and haven't had it for over a week now. I haven't been able to get into an AT&T store yet, but when I do I'll tell everyone what they need to say in order to get out of the contract.

Has anyone that experienced this problem upgraded to 3.1.2 yet? Did it fix the problem? Are there new bugs that we should know about?

Not knowing when Apple would release a fix to this problem, I went to the Apple store last weekend and got a replacement phone. The replacement phone has 3.0 and I'm staying there until I know that the problems that 3.1 caused are fixed.

Just finished updating my phone to 3.1.2. No problems encountered during the install. Now I'll need to wait to see if I still have the issues...

Everyone try disabling 3G under Settings >> General >> Network >> Enable 3G "off"

My phone works fine on EDGE network until Apple solves the issue. Even had AT&T reset my phone on the network today and 3G still doesn't work.

So just disable 3G and use EDGE to have an operational phone again. Hope it helps.

I've just done the 3.1.2 update as well. Update ran fine, have re-enabled my 3G, will see how it goes.
