iPod Touch Speaker/Headphone Audio

Sometimes my 2nd generation iPod doesn't play audio through the speaker. I will be listening to a song, a video, or an app without headphones then the audio will randomly stop playing. When I try to adjust the volume, it says there are headphones plugged in. Basically sometimes my iPod says there are headphones plugged in and they aren't.

Has anybody else had this problem? Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks

I'm having a similar issue, but not exactly the same. When I listen with my headphones my volume controls are perfectly fine. If I pull out the headphones and then try to play something with the speakers it shows that I have no volume control on the screen and the side volume button doesn't function- in addition no sound comes out. When I turn off my ipod and turn it back on it suddenly works through the speakers again and I have volume controls on the screen...what's going on? I never had this issue before the new software update. Can anyone please help? Is there a setting somewhere I'm missing? Thanks!
