Q: iTunes 9 Starts Automatically

Since installing iTunes 9 the application keeps starting automatically on Start-up. Even if I then close the application, then it starts-up again later, and sometimes even plays a song of its own will.

Any ideas what may be causing this and advice how to stop it?

I want to use headphones, so tossing my headphones is not an option.

    Hello,

I was facing the same problem since I upgraded my iTunes to v10.6.4 on a 27" iMac running OS X 10.8.x.

Now I upgraded iTunes to 11.1, this bug was still there - so I decided to fix once for all this annoying problem…

After spending a while looking what could be causing those uninterrupted restarts of iTunes when quitting it (I tried deleting all prefs files, and changing back and forth all settings in Preferences) I realized that I had installed from the Mac App Store a useful little app to "Speed-Up" the rhythm of my PodCasts when listening them :

       http://wetfish.de/software/speedup/

And simply desactivating it ("Quit" in the Menu bar + remove this add-on from the startup items list in " Apple / System Prefs / Users & Groups / Startup ") solved my probem : iTunes is now QUITTING properly, no more intermpestive restarts !

So : verify carefully ALL third-party apps related to iTunes and audio on your Mac…

Hey - happening to me as well.  Although this is not a fix, it will mask the problem.  All you need to do is reduce the volume in iTunes to zero.  So even though it is playing in the background, you won't hear anything.
